OK so why does the artillery fire through heavy woods?

Post by Asid »

Dear devs

I am not trying to bash. I played a 3v3 game today. Yes I used mods. KS which I used many times.

The enemy could not have seen me. I was on the other side of several large forests (heavy). Yet the enemy artillery could see and fire at me through heavy woods. This happened to others as well.

Why is this? Realistic? Not in my opinion. It was embarrassing and monotonous.

Please advise.

Regards

Map? Woods? Units' positions? (screenshot of engagement or save is best) And no mods please!

There may be one more patch coming, if we can replicate an issue, we usually can fix it.

Why no mods? Mods have no effect on artillery LoS calculations.

The Artillery LoS calculation is not moddable, otherwise we'd have fixed it ourselves, its part of the stock game we cannot alter.

Perhaps NSD could look at the artillery LoS algorithm in use in the last version of Gettysburg. This issue is not present in that game, after it was patched out. It is present in Waterloo, so the cause seems to be an older version of Gettysburg used as the basis of the WL game.

Standard NSD request when troubleshooting saves, regardless of the issue.

But why, in this case when the problem in question isn't created by a mod?

This is the same issue as the post made a short while ago This post.

I have played quite a number of sessions using the KS mod. this is my preference at this time. It has been argued that the code which would change the artillery L.O.S. is not accessible or modabble by the general public and that the KS mod has made no change to this code.

I am trying to do some more testing. I can honestly say that if it turns out that the artillery can spot and shoot through thick, heavy woods. Then I would be less inclined to play SOW:WL. This would be a real shame but it would unbalance many scenarios.

I hope a solution can be found somehow. I really do enjoy WL.

Merry Christmas to all.
