Back up those servers!

As someone who uses Microsoft Flight Simulator X, I was shocked to see today that one of the main websites for the flight sim hobby, Avsim.com, was destroyed by a hacker. It may not recover.

I hope NSD has a good backup server to prevent a disaster like this.

Our host does do backups. It came in handy recently when I upgraded the forum and it wiped out the custom art we had in there. I was able to restore it from the backups.

Excuse my language here but what kind of an asshole goes into a sight that does nothing to cause problem an d decides he's going to be a damned nuesence and wreck the whole thing. If anybody here has ever p;ayed the Microsoft FS they know exactly how it is one of the best simulators out there. It's up there with Silent Hunter III/IV and Ship Simulator. I hope that hacker is caught worthless swine. This is what the wo;d is going to.

I agree 100%.. Everyone that does this kind of stuff should be dragged out to the street and shot. I deal with it every day working in IT (virus's, spyware) and it's a big pain.

On the other hand, avsim should have been prepared for something like this.. It's called "disaster recovery" and they obviously didn't have a disaster recovery plan.
