Multiplayer glitch with new download

I had to send my new computer back to the manufacturer for repair, so I downloaded Gettysburg on my old computer (where I used to play Gettysburg). The solitaire works perfectly, but the multiplayer version is now unplayable:

I can no longer send a division or brigade to wherever I want. When I try, the unit can go only a very short distance away.
When I click on one of my division or brigade commanders I can no longer see him. It's like I am in HITS mode.
The shift key no longer raises the camera.

I'm obviously missing something, something I've failed to account for.

Any and all suggestions will be most helpful.
