Graphics Totally messed up On WIndows 11

I just installed SOW Waterloo on my computer ..original Matrix version..and the graphics are totally messed up and unplayble. Hard to describe, but almost everything is displayed in huge blocks with black background. I am using Windows 11 with a Nvidia Geforce RTX 3050 card.
I got as sick feeling there is no fix, and I will have to buy the steam version.

try to set the game exe compatibility mode on win7 and run as administartor.
