Let me add this; The version of McAfee I have on my (vista) pc, will not let me exit or close the program, the selections are simlply not there, however, on my (xp) laptop (2-3 yr. old, that has shared memory) down on the launch bar, the McAfee icon can be right clicked to "exit", without uninstalling the program, freeing up the machine to do as I please. The only way (freeing up machine) that I can do that on my pc is to uninstall McAfee, which I'm not crazy about doing. :dry: Take note; GB has been my first DRM, everythingelse has been CD, of which I am a proponent of now, more than ever.

I would not advise you to not use your virus protection. I don't use it myself, I prefer to manually run scans, not have something stealing my cpu all the time. I run a scan most nights when I close up shop.

Even with CD protection, it is highly likely that we would use an encrypted dll to protect the code. It's very common. I think that McAfee will get this cleaned up, we're not the only ones suffering from this.

I did put some code in for this specific situation in the next patch. We hope to release it in the next couple of days. There is only so much I can do against getting my files randomly deleted, but there are a few steps I can take.

All that I have heard suggested on these threads is for you to get better virus protection. McAfee and AVG are the low end. There are much better solutions that will do a much better job. This new heuristic protection that has recently come out is the problem. The design decision to delete files that the program does not understand is what I believe they should be held accountable for. They should offer a choice to the user and let them decide. It's just poor programming.

What really sucks is that because of your virus software, it is influencing your entire view of DRM. So you are now forming your opinion because you have software installed that deletes our files. Doesn't really seem fair to us. I will repeat it again, if I have my program go and delete files out of your windows folder, are you going to blame Microsft?

It's actually the heuristic protection that is causing the problems. Your program unpacks itself exactly the same way that virii do today. If you are also using a mutation routine to encrypt the files, this waves an even bigger red flag. I certainly don't blame you for using these techniques to protect all your hard work, I would do the same. It's just that you are using the same method that the low-lives also use.

Thanks, I appreciate the knowledge as to why it's happening, but the better virus protection programs will ask you before they delete your files. The really good ones do not even flag it. They recognize the coding strategy.

This is not the first time McAfee has pulled this, if you google for McAfee false positives you will come up with many articles about how they have shut down programs worldwide. They are installed on so many systems, that when they mess up, everyone suffers. Now it's our turn.

Just spent the afternoon with a tier 2 tech from McAfee, alot was accommplished I hope I can reinstall the game now.

French...kind of reminds me why the French plant all those trees along the Avenue des Champs-Élysées...so the Germans can march in the shade!

Several years ago some friends and I picked up our motorcycles in Zurich, Switzerland, rode the Alps, Southern Germany, Manheim, Hiedleburg on up the Rhine River towards Amsterdam an awesome trip. I think today I'd feel more complete If we had gone to Paris and rode down the Avenue des Champs-Elysees, the city being the parade and we being the spectators..
