Hi Little Powell

Certainly am enjoying it.

Going to try tomorrow. "Meade's Charge". Wait until the Confederate units are just in front of the Union lines then hit them with a union "full army" charge while they are still milling about. Doesn't make any sense whatsoever militarily but it might be interesting. I adore "what if"s.

I would love to see a similar mod for the Jackson and Rodes scenarios. Play Lee and get those idle layabouts on the Confederate right flank in both scenarios to do something useful. The Confederates could really have had this all wrapped up and put to bed on the first day with a bit of initiative and inspiration. They missed it by that much !!

This is a save of a Sandbox game.
Yes, it is.

Have never had any problems since the first patch. Have played two other games with the new patch and no problems.

Oh. I thought you were having a problem with this Pickett's Charge Mod (hence posting in here).

Can you describe the problem with this save?
Well, you know me and Murphy..."If something can...etc.etc.etc."

I replayed the scenario and it worked just fine. Might have been something with Windows as there were 12,000 downloads from them when I logged on yesterday!

If it happens again, will send the right "save."

Thanks, Matt.

I also played this scenario now and what I noticed is that there where some scripting involved? I took command of Pickett's div and TC'd his brigades. When I tried to move them as planned they constantly wanted to move another way.

Also when we finally took the objective(I've lost half my strength) I had approx. one brig. at the obj. I could just sit there for the rest of the scenario gaining score(ended up at 5500). The union ai did not try to reclaim it even though they outnumbered us and was no more than 300 yards away.

Hi Krille,

Remember that Little Powell simply made a cheap and cheerful adjustment to the existing Pickett’s Charge scenario to produce this new one. Some message script was removed but, apart from access now being allowed to each individual commander, the “plot” remains unchanged.

You will notice that the first two varients that I described playing, involved troops who were not directly involved in the historical charge but who have had only a re-active role under AI. Rodes in the first instance and Ward in the second.

My third varient “Meade’s Charge” was similar and, I might add, great fun.

I then tried something completely different. I got Lee to march his entire army right to the south, assemble en-masse by the Peach Orchard, and the assault the ridge to the East.

The “Pickett’s Charge” however contingent immediately tried to head to their destiny directly up Cemetery Ridge as programmed. They wouldn’t be TC’d ( a bit like O’Neal and Doles) and for their own safety I retreated them progressively all the way back to the western edge of the map. I managed to nudge them south a bit but they were clearly confused and unhappy and had to be continually watched.

Once Lee got onto the Ridge and headed north the battle was awesome. Incredibly congested like the Rapid Transit at the rush hour. Had a Borodino look about it. Organisation cohesion rapidly broke up and the control soon deteriorated into peering at the map and using the 5, 6 , 7, and 8 keys most of the time to keep things rolling along.

I was about two thirds of the way along the ridge and beginning to wilt when the power failed (This is Zimbabwe !!) The Union guns were a bit of a problem again as you hit a concentration of them but again they were slow to pivot the whole group of batteries to the south.
