I coded the chat box, but I get the string and send it to the lobby sdk. I did not write the lobby sdk nor the lobby server. So I can only tell you what happens on our side and cannot tell why it gets changed.

I would keep trying direct connect and make sure to get the log and email it or just post it here. That way we can hopefully see the error that you are getting.

It's also helpful to get the log from the other side, so that we can see their errors.

i dont actually get an error message. It goes into the staging room, but noone else makes it in except me. I could even start the game.

I was talking to someone in the lobby there, they said i may have made a mistake in the IP stage? While following the instructions for the static IP, it says to rename your PC's IP etc. Mine ended in .7, so I renamed it .73. He thought this could be an issue?

Also he mentioned DMZ, ill look into that.

You need to give them your internet ip, not your machine's lan ip.

Go to whatsmyip.org to get it. That will get them to your router, then your router will get them to your computer if it's mapped correctly.

well that is something that confused me.

Whats my ip.org gives me one address.

The 'how to setup a static IP' guide asks you to go through the cmd file, take down IP address, default gateway, subnet masks etc and use that IP address while changing the last digit like I mentioned in my previous post.

Conflicting instructions that leave you with two very different IP addresses. So you think its the other one i should have used?

The "how to setup a static IP" guide is for your home network only. If you want to play a LAN game you need the IP you set up.
For an internet game you need the external IP (the one that is shown on whatsmyip.org) you receive from your provider when you go online.

Having never mapped my router, etc I was totally new at this. I followed the directions and it still didn't work. I used 3 sites which gave at times different info. Then I used trial and error until I got it. Last problem I had was static ip. I eventually used the number my computer had and made it static. That worked and I learned something about mapping ports, etc.

I spent ages last night trying to get it working, to no success.

Talon, who deserves a medal spent about an hour and a half talking me through various things and helping me test them. Harmon gave some good advice too. Two other people floated into the lobby who were having the same problem!

They both reccommended i post some screen shots of my router settings, and a few other things which i will do once i get home from work.

It occurred to me after talking to them that posting all my computer details online mightnt be the safest thing however, what do you guys think?

Hi COn20or

In case it might help. Until today I have been unable to host mp. Probably did all the same things that you did. Portchecker told me udp connection was open and still nothing.Today I went in to the sowinifile where I had changed the mapport setting to 1when the game came out initially. I also had mapport checked in the options of the game. I changed the 1 in the ini file to 0 more out of frustration than anthing else and left mapport checked in the options and what do you think? It worked. Might be worth a try
