When we have played courier multiplayer games in the past we used courier by brigade. This is still a point and click method of controlling your troops but you get the delay of the courier and the possibility of the couriers not been intercepted.
It would be really interesting to try a game using the courier message system. I have played some great sandbox games using this method, particularly on the Alpine Map where strategic planning is really needed. There’s nothing like thinking you have successfully sent a Corps on a flanking march to find it been flanked by the AI!!
When you are ready to try multiplayer let me know and I would happy to have a game.

I had an interesting situation where a brigade had advanced well past my division's formal battle line. Of course, the commander was bold!
The enemy proceeded to cut him off and surround him on 3 sides. I couldn't get any messages to him, as the couriers kept getting killed. So, I had to take a gamble and have the rest of my division attack the enemy in front of us. Luckily, much of the enemy force was encircling this cut-off brigade, so I was able to break through their front line and assault the rear and flanks of their encircling force.
Of course, by this time, that brigade was getting spanked. But, it created a very tense and interesting small game. One of my brigades wouldn't even attack (that commander was defensive!). Once the other brigades starting engaging the enemy, he finally started to support the attack.
That is another fun example of my experience with the courier system. Sure, I could play it with point and click, but how realistic would that be? I was grinning ear to ear when I realized that brigade was cut off! How many games do you play where lines of communication can be severed like that?!
Once I get some more experience, I would love to try a courier system battle with ya, Tobe123. I'm afraid that I'm not good enough to start yet. My artillery skills are lacking. I mostly place them and forget them, unless they are either directly threatened, I move my entire force, or I am advancing my forces. Would you want to be cooperative (you could be divisional commander, I could be brigade, or we could both be divisional or both be brigade....or even corps, that's a large battle) or against each other?

Don't worry too much about this part - we have players drop into MP for their very first games, if you can believe it. Many go to SP to try and get some experience, but MP is fun regardless.Once I get some more experience, I would love to try a courier system battle with ya, Tobe123. Both! Although I would have to say that co-op is much less daunting when you're starting out (at least it was for me). But the great part about MP is there are tons of different things you can try, so lots of games to be played.
