Adding Trees...

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Jack –don’t you think that this map will look better using fall trees instead of the green ones; the green just seems to stand out-of-place!

I think that I can also add a lot of fallen dead trees into the mix to sort of break-up the wooded areas, by tilting the dead tree graphics ninety degrees.

D,

Fall trees look great! Like the idea of the fallen timbers too. Good deal!

Davinci,

That is a great looking map. You are right, I think some dead trees would also look good, some tilted 30 to 45 degrees some to 90 degrees and some straight up. Just my 2 cents.

Can you make a downloadable mod for those trees?

Hey, I’ll keep playing around with this map, binding my time until the release of the patch.
Before you said anything, I never really noticed this map before.

Great Idea! – I didn’t think about tilting the dead trees, I’ll experiment with them tilting!
Basically, the ground texture has to be disrupted a bit, so dead trees, rocks, and weeds should give the appearance of rough terrain.

You probably already have some of them, they were release by Crikey, or DavidD on the other site, and I think he first released in his Sequatchie Map !

But, he sent me some more today, so I’m going to try to combine all of them for this map!
My first several attempts failed, so I’m still at it!
I think that I need that over-grown weed look to fill in the empty spaces, but without affecting the FPS that much.

The corn is sort of in rows in the direction of the ground textures.

You can also make fairly nice thickets by lowering dead trees into the ground a good deal. :)

Great Idea, bedbug – give them different shades of darkness, and different levitation values.

I doubt if a large OOB will work, I’m starting to affect my FPS, and I’m at the half-way point! OOPs!

The Kansas map was made sparse for a reason.

Here is the Link for the fall trees, provided by Crikey , the trees were done by DavidD .

Hey, you are inside of the loop, can you explain why the map was made so sparse, I can’t see any size difference from the 2_DD_RT map?

The map does appear to be longer from north to south, while viewing the jump map, but I have never seen a rectangular map before, so that can’t be correct!

Adding dead limb in the ground, for the rough effect, tilting trees are possible as long as the file is even on all sides.

D,

So, threw in the map mod. Trees everywhere!!! Actually started to affect my FPS, quite a bit actually. Might be a good idea to thin them out a bit. Maybe by half, in smaller copses. Looks great though.

Idea - what about snow? If we can change the rocks and such, can we add snow, say in patches? What do you think?
