Newbies Need Help for Setting Up a Multiplayer Game
Re: Newbies Need Help for Setting Up a Multiplayer Game
Okay, here are screenshots of what I have done using your advice about the DMZ. When I used my port checker program it indicated that the port is open for TCP but not UDP. I am wondering if I will be able to host in the lobby or will it only be by TCP/IP? Thanks.

I believe the lobby uses TCP as well but Norb would have to answer that one. Give it a shot and let us know if it works or not.Okay, here are screenshots of what I have done using your advice about the DMZ. The game uses TCP for connection, then UDP. Most games work that way. There should be an option to support both on the router. Have you tried the map port option?

Sorry but I am a computer neophyte. As I told Little Powell, my port checker program indicated that the port was open for TCP but not UDP after I went through the procedure of opening up port 31791. My friend and I are going to try in about 30 minutes to see if I can host a game. I'm not familiar with the map port option? Thanks.

I completely forgot about the map port option. When you first open multiplayer, it's it's the button on the far left of the set of buttons. It will attempt to automatically map your port.Sorry but I am a computer neophyte. You will have to delete the port you created. I think that it will fail if the port already exists. But try deleting the port you created, then go in and hit the map port button and see if it works.

Well, the only way we could connect up was to use Hamachi and its IP number but at least it worked. We played the first scenario, McPherson's Ridge and neither one of us had a clue as to what was going on. I was Meade and I noticed that many times a unit or commander would not obey commands unless I sent a courier. Ironically, my friend left the game after one of his brigades had been defeated thinking he had lost the game. I kept playing not knowing he had left. A fresh Reb brigade appeared and kicked the crap out of Meredith's boys. To make a long story short, I played the last 45 minutes against the AI (still thinking it was my friend) and got clobbered. The game seemed to lag a little, i.e. played slower then single player. Anyway, lots to learn about command and tactics. Great game/simulation and thank god, Hamachi works. Thanks to everyone for their help.

Yeah the game can be a little overwhelming for new players. But there are the excellent in game tutorials that will teach you all of the game mechanics and you'll be up to speed in no time.
Glad you got mp working... Now you'll be hooked.
