I don't have a resolution of 1280 x 1024 available to me. I did try loading with just a vga driver using msconfig but the game just set the resolution back to 1024 x 768. Keep in mind that I have another computer whose max resolution is 1024 x 768.

Let me throw something out there. If the stock POPUP_Courier.dds file is being read and not the one for the mod why don't I replace the stock one with the modded one in the ..base\graphics\screen directory and see what happens? I've been working on this so much I'm more than happy to try and I'm not worried about screwing anything up.

If you plan on doing this, using Windows Explorer create another new folder and name it NorbSoftDev2 - and then copy your whole NorbSoftDev install into this new file.

This will give you a complete backup of all of the files, just in-case something goes wrong. You could then just copy a file from your back-up into the NorbSoftDev copy of the game.

I have four copies of the game on my computer - do to me constantly doing things that I'm not supposed to be doing!

OK. It's better to ask forgiveness than permission. Here's what I did. I renamed the stock POPUP_Courier.dds to POPUP_Courier.ori and then copied the modded .dds file to the ..\base\graphics\screens directory and renamed the one in the mod ..\screens directory to POPUP_Courier.ori. Didn't work. I then removed the modded POPUP_Courier.dds file from the ..\base\graphics\screens which meant there was no stock POPUP_Courier.dds file in that directory at all and put the modded POPUP_Courier.dds back in mod directory and that didn't work either.

My conclusion is that it is not reading the stock dds file because I first replaced it with the modded one and next removed it altogether. The problem is, IMHO, that the game engine does not interpret the gcreen file correctly. I think I determined this by creating my own mod and moving the cancel icon (see my original post for this thread). If you would like I can upload my graphics and gscreen file along with a screenshot.

Again, thanks for all the help

Hey Davinci,

Just saw your screenshot, you are getting the modded Large Courier Screen correctly. Good, my mod works on your machine, bad, you can't troubleshoot this issue.

It was mentioned to replace the stock files with the modded graphic...no, no...don't mess with the stock files. All alterations must go in the mods folder, otherwise things can get messed up fast...right D?

This game has a wonderful modding system, far superior to the previous TC games. You don't ever have to mess with stock files, everything should, and will, work through mods...except now, this really weird glitch.

Hey guys, I know that messing with the stock files is a nono but I'm comfortable with doing that. Like I said I'm an IT guy and am used to dealing with other peoples data. Trust me, I'm VERY careful. I agree with DaVinci completely. You can never have enough backup and never delete anything. ;) But in this case, for troubleshooting purposes, for me it's OK.

born2see - Sorry that I can't help you out with this, but I'm at a loss as to why certain Computers have this problem, while others don't!

RebBugler - Yes, the game is reading your file correctly on my end!

I even tried this procedure:

Renamed the POPUP_Courier.dds that is located in the Base\ folder - so that this file can't show up in game.

Started up the game and ran both of your mods - courier screen still shows up!

Possible Solution - may be to create a blank back-ground page for some user's so that the Courier border doesn't interfer with the message, and allows for the page to close \ exit!

It could be a graphics card issue. You should try getting the latest drivers for your graphics card. On my old machine, I remember having some strange graphical issues that other testers did not such as black boarders around courier messages, wavy lines on the MP OOB screen, etc..

Born2See...Have you tried this, to force gscreens to read the modded graphic?

Hey Davinci, the large courier screen looks great with the resolution you use, least that's my highly biased opinion. Otherwise, bet the stock courier screen REALLY looks letterboxy.

I did try to force the gscreen file to read the modded graphic file by removing the stock one from the ..\base\graphics\screens directory. No luck.

If nobody minds I'm going to continue to work on this. I have an advantage because I can reproduce the problem. The behavior is consistent for my two computers so I should be able to come up with something that works for me. I'm like a dog with a bone with the stuff and I have too much time on my hands and no life. People keep telling me to "get a life" but they never say where. ;)

That's too bad, or at least we'd have a semi fix.

Blow off getting a life, in case you waver, we need you here on the front line, AH-TEN-HUT. Your SOW duty calls.
