Maximum PC magazine is all about building a sceeming hot gaming machine. The May 17 2011 issue. On the front cover is the main 5 components that you need. Include your Monitor and at least a 750 watt supply unit. The others you can get off of your old rig and get by until more bucks roll in. This comming Christmas I will have the bucks for me and my dream machine. Congrats on your up comming upgrade.
BUILD IT AND YOU WILL LOVE IT EVEN MORE. IMHO

SS, I just built a new desktop computer that is a 10 bay tower, MSI P55-CD53 Core i5 or Core i7 LGA1156 mother board, I loaded it with the Intel Core i5 750 2.66 GHz LGA1156 L3 8MB CPU Processor, 8 GB ram, with Windows 7. I can give the rest of the details later if you want. I`m asking 933. 97 for it, brand new never used.

SouthernSteel:
Here's a list of components I used. I had to cut a few corners so you could buy speakers and a monitor. You'll be hard pressed to find a game this can't run.

Intel 17-2600 3.4GHz overclock to 3.8 - 4 $315
Asus Maximus IV Extreme M'board (only the best. If you don't want to overclock you can save $100 here) $350
G-Skill DDR3 1600 2X4GB 1.35V RAM (nice latency) $110
ATI XFX Radeon 6970 (you could get something in 5800 series to lower the price by $100-150) $350
Cool Master Hyper 212 Plus CPU fan (quiet) $50
Cool Master Storm Sniper case (Roomy! You'll never buy another Dell) $150
Corsair WGS800 800W power supply $130
Seagate 1TB Sata 6 HD $150
Asus 24X DVD burner (buy another for copying they're cheap) $20
Asus VE248H 24" monitor (great contrast) $200
If you can wait on a monitor, get a Crucial SSD 64GB SATA 3 for the OS $165
I don't know speakers, so you're on your own.

Parker this is what I just added to my pc the processor and motherboard were bundled.
I already had a very moddable case and used my old Harddrive, sound card DVD drive and power supply.
The parts I bought were around $900 when you buy a processor motherboard and hard drive you can usually get windows for a reasonable price also.

64GB Solid State Drive SATA 3.0

24X DUAL LAYER DVD-RW

nVidia GeForce GTX570 1280MB DDR5 2DVI/HDMI PCI-Express Video Card

REALTEK 8-CHANNEL DIGITAL SOUND ONBOARD

REALTEK 10/100/1000 Gigabit Network Card (onboard)

Thermaltake V6 BlacX Edition Gaming Chassis Mid Tower Steel Computer Case BlacX Top Mounted HDD Docking Station VM100M1W2Z

CORSAIR 650 WATT HIGH PERFORMANCE SLI/CROSSFIRE POWER SUPPLY

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (W/LIFETIME OF FREE SUPPORT, DVD & LICENSE INCLUDED)

and a Dell U2311H 23" monitor. Waiting on the speakers right now, might just commandeer our old surround sound system (assuming it still works). Also got a new keyboard (microsoft ergo 4000) and a gaming mouse (Logitech MX 518 High Performance Optical Gaming Mouse (Metal)), so hoping this will do me right. Was recommended to put the OS on the regular HD and then use the SSD for caching, so I requested that from the builder, will see what happens.

Wow, gonna be a rig to be proud of B) , and won't be obsolete for at least two years.

Thought it would be best to install SOW on the SDD...but I don't really know. Was planning on getting one of those little super drives in the near future.

Looking forward in hearing about the progress of your dream rig...thanks for sharing.

Knowing that I will have deprived Adler of his chief demonstration of his talent for observation and, in turn, will have deprived soldier of his joy at getting to hear said report every game is of no small amount of satisfaction to me. I ought to inquire as to whether the programmers can put in a message that says "Parker is waiting on YOU". It will appear exactly .38 seconds into your loading time, replacing messages about loading individual pieces.

Yes. . . well. . . I have no doubt we'll still be "waiting on Parker" while you scurry to appease your gf with tea and cookies before selecting your division.
