Scale Question

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

All of that begs the question "how many men can you get in a mile?"

Aaaagggghhhhh!!! I can't believe I said that! I'm a sick man, guys, sick.

Davinci and everyone, thanks for all the help. Yeah, I mod everything in a seperate folder, and have the mod applied, and it doesn't seem to matter if I have them at 2 yards or .1 yds apart, they are far apart and not shoulder to shoulder. Here is a screenie

OK, the error is on your end - I just tested this!

I scaled down the sprites too half the default size, and closed the ranks.

This is how my drills file look - first line pertaining to standing.

Level 6 Infantry Line (0),DRIL_Lvl6_Inf_Line,3,63,0.8,0.8,,1,1,0,-10,1,,100,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Yep... had the bugles and flag mod overriding the drills csv I altered. Ended up putting them .8 away in regular line, and spacing them out to 1.2 in line combat to try and get that natural spacing they would have developed. Thanks for that help.

Those are some cool smoke effects by the way. I know that not every machine will be able to handle that but you should think about posting that as a mod.

Are you going to resize the flags, or just leave them that size, and height?

I'm going to resize the flags I use for companies to a small size, and keep the "regimental" and "brigade flags" big. Thanks dude, the sr1 is turning out nice. Made a practice regiment, and it maybe extended the length of a brigade in double line form (I moved the back line up to only 15 yds behind the front for a more realistic regiment feel), but it's because the one regiment had 10 companies of about 100 men each. Reduced casualty rates a little, and it's feeling good. Thanks again, wouldn't of spotted that without your help bud!

There are also several other things that you can do to increase the length of the battles, and sort of slow down the fighting.

In the SDK \ Maps – you have the mapname.csv files that control the terrain that is showed \ displayed on the maps.

Column C – controls the speed of which the units will move on the field, so increasing this number will slow down the movement rates.

Column G – controls the defensive bonus of the terrain that the units are standing on. Increasing this number will allow for longer battles, due to the fact that the units are not killing each other as fast!

The setup is fairly simple – Your Mod Name \ Maps – place mapname.csv file into that folder. These will over-ride the default settings.

One thing to consider is the regimental frontage. If you just shrink the sprites and then close them up, the regiment will not cover enough space. On the 2.48 mile maps if the sprites are reduced to correct height at a sprite ratio of 1:4 then the unit only covers 25% of the space it should. To get things as correct as possible, you need to balance the sprite ratio, sprite size and sprite spacing to get good visual appearance as well as reasonably correct unit frontage when in line of battle formation.
