Mike,

Totally agree. To each their own. AND, even when you, as Division Cmdr, are sending a courier to you, the Brigade Cmdr, it can still be nerve wracking. Just last night, during the musket range testing, Rugers brigade took a different road and slammed head-on into Mclaws' whole Division. I had to un-TC him and let him fight it out on his own, as the rest of the Division was engaged to the north and I couldn't support him. Fortunately, Ruger is one of the better Brigade Cmdrs in the Union Army and his troops are all at least seasoned. They gave a good accounting of themselves until supported/relieved by Wheatons whole Division coming down the road behind him. All I could do was watch. Sweet!

I don't think anyone would disagree with this sentiment. But I do think SOW already goes a long way in fulfilling that. It has 7 difficulty levels plus a custom level. Nearly every aspect of the weapons and units can be modded. The player can either fly around the battlefield, issuing instant orders and take direct control of all his units, or he can sit on a horse and use couriers and hope. A player can easily give himself nearly any advantage or handicap he likes. I can't think of another game that gives this range of freedom.

Very true, it does offer up allot.

I have to disagree to a point here. I have tried among others to get mod in Gatling gun (you can emulate it), but it just can't be done (I know it's not historically correct, but it would have been nice to have the option to add it).

There are allot of games that offer up the same thing, what makes SOW stand out is it's ability to give a player the feel, and taste of the ACW battlefield. Also factoring in that SOWgb level of Immersion is outstanding, and it A.I again top of the line, and the level of realism is bar none one of the best on the market....but to say that SOW is the only game that offers up such a gambit of options is not completely accurate. There is always room for improvement for any game out there, and that includes SOW. So far there is no Career mode, no scenario editor, no map editor. I'm not bashing SOW (hell, I've even went as far as posting Pull Tabs notices on the cork boards in my local supermarket) at all by suggesting that I would like to see other bit's, and pieces added in there. I mean if SOW is great as it stands then why bring out the next edition to this series, why not just keep making addons, and expand with each addon add a few more options along the way (map editor, career mode...).

By far SOWgb is a TRUE 9.5 out of 10 in my books, and always will be. (one of the many curses of gaming I'm afraid is always wanting more). :)

Howdy Jack.

This is where this game shines, if something can go wrong, it most likely will. The break down of command here is something isn't it? I really like the way you have described it, "Gut Wrenching". Sometimes there is only so much you can do, and hope that the people under your command know what they are doing, and trust in them enough to pull off what can be seen as impossible at the time. Nothing more rewarding, and satisfying watching a commander actually pull off something, even to the point where it becomes one of the your most memorable battles (heck take a screenshot of the commander, and his troops, and give a run through with the paint program for safe keeping) :)
