My apologies Davinci, you sounded like an old man with a lot of answers ,ready at a moments notice to push aside adolescent requests. my mistake. i just want to make sure you truly understand the question.
Here we go …..
again …..
Look, I’m trying to paint a picture using words of the games code….and
no I have absolutely zero knowledge about
coding either…..
There are only
two people that I know of on this forum that can code a game.
That would be
Norb and the
G-man .
Your request may seem simple, but there are probably a thousand lines of code that has to be altered to get the desire that you want in the game.
That was my whole point, if it was a simple change this line of code to place the units in a
disorganize state, then I’m sure that the
G-man would have already done that!
Every action causes a re-action, so changing that many lines of code would require a lot of testing to ensure that it didn’t alter anything else.
Another,
solution would be to slow down the approaching troops, by placing a penalty bonus on the terrain, considering that it probably wasn’t that many form-into-column-charges in the Civil War.
But, this is only my opinion, and
I’m not on the
team , so blaming them for my answers really won't solve a thing!

I really like this suggestion - a similar feature is already there..when a regiment surrenders it stands around, troops spread out etc, unable to move. Maybe they could adopt a modified version of this stance after a melee for a suitable amount of time - a minute/2mins or so.
I'm just a tester but i will suggest it to the developres unless you have already LP?

you couldn't just slow down how fast the unit forms back up?
If they're forming up too fast........then you just need to think faster BS.
Look, this is a business.....but nothing is perfect. The DevTeam does their very best to fix problems when they come along. But for one, and for the most of us on the DevTeam, this is not our primary gig. We have "9 to 5's" that are, unfortunately, our main priority. We cannot just drop everything to tidy up the game.
Many people on this DevTeam like Norb, LP and myself are family men. We do not have the resources from this game alone to take care of those families; thus, we cannot spend 10-12 hours a day on the development of SOW.
It would be nice...........but just not realistic at this time.
So, as far as playing this game.....especially MP..... just do the best you can. Develop a new tactic of assault to deal with these fast reforming units.
I have a couple.......but the Mad One never shares everything.

Sarge

Go ahead and get it in the system. If it's an easy change that doesn't break something else, chances are it'll get in.

Taking a complicated approach like adding another distinct formation for disordered troops is not simple. Even if it's simple to code, it brings a lot of questions and starts new gameplay issues. What if I have a 20 man regiment and I charge your 500 man regiment right before it reaches my 300 man regiment, causing your 500 men to be disordered so your charge stops? That's just one issue, answering it leads to more.
Organization can be represented by fatigue. Some aspects of this can be modded for MP. Should units get tired faster when running or when meleeing? After a regiment gets a certain amount of fatigue they can't charge any more. It's also possible to some extent to change the effects of fatigue on regiments' combat ability.

I was actually thinking about something similar to this. Instead of messing with the formation or creating a new one, we could just increase the amount of fatigue penalty for melee. So this way after a melee, you are going to be pretty much used up until you have time to rest again.

Assuming Beef's beef was with what happened in a GCM game, the mod-able files are already modded.

The easy ability to melee is one of the glaring errors of the game. They were a very rare occurrence in 19th century warfare. Increasing the fatigue as the result of a melee, as Little Powell suggests, is a nice feature and is incorporated in a number of miniature rule sets. But the root problem still needs to be addressed; most charges did not result in hand to hand fighting.

I don’t think that this approach is going to work out right due to the fact that the units can still charge if they are exhausted and close enough to each other.
I play the game with a very heavy penalty bonus on all of the terrain, and I also take away fatigue points for firing their weapons. This is to keep the units from charging which I have stated numerous times that I hate.
So, if any of my units are marching or fighting they are 100% exhausted, and every now and then when they get too close they can still charge, but it is rare due to the fact that I have placed a
MinEnemy of
100 in the drills file.
This will usually cause both regiments to flee away from each other instead of fighting.
I could be wrong, it happens so much that it’s a normal part of my day, but I don’t think that this is going to be a simple fix without a new formation being added into the game.
