Here you can talk about whatever floats your boat. Your favorite movie, sports team, etc. If it's a little racey, I suggest you post in R&R, otherwise we'll move it for you.
I've managed to trash my Windows 7 installation a couple of times but that was my fault because of the kinds of software I install.
I would agree it's pretty stable. Although I never had too much trouble with XP.

The Windows Installer (Setup.exe) on DVD #1 is NOT like the Wubi installer even though they claim it's based on Wubi which it is not. The Debian Windows installer will use Windows to draw on Hardware information, etc, etc... (unless I'm missing something), and install it's own hardware drivers when required.
It will not create a virtual drive (if you wish to call it that) like Wubi does for Ubuntu with the option to uninstall through windows.
Oh well, it's either do a full install, or use VMWare...Hmmm what to do.
If anyone here has installed Debian through Windows, and it has worked out okay, I would like to hear from you.
Cheers.

Can you run Debian under Windows and then run Wine under Debian so you can run SOW under Wine?
I HAVE to know this!

Haaaa, okay from what I have read NO it won't run under Windows (I'm still struggling here to bite the bullet to check for sure). With the full package which I have it all comes with all the tools for Wine, and yes you should be able to use wine to install, and run SOWgb. Now with that said though I can't test out if you can register your SOWgb serial or not since I have an internal modem, and Linux OS's hate win modems.
Run Down...
Can you run Debian under Windows?
Nope.
then run Wine under Debian?
Yes
so you can run SOW under Wine?
Yes (unknown for game activation though)
I HAVE to know this!
Wahaha!

I finally made the plunge, and installed Debian on my USB external drive (120 gigs). Well after I installed it Windows 7 no longer showed up in the boot record (grub boot loader), and booted directly into Debian. Well since I can't connect to the internet (damn internal modem) to get the info to correct this situation I had to resort to something I really don't like doing unless I am sitting on the throne, and that is dig through my big old brain for an answer.
I remember reading something yesterday about a root command "update-grub2" somewhere in the mass of webpages I was thumbing through.
I gained root access, and typed in update-grub2, and it scanned the boot for other OS's, and it updated the grub config.
I rebooted, and voila I am here telling you about it....
Now the real part here is to try out Scourge of War Gettysburg...now since I don't have a Modem to use, can NSD please drop the Serial activation?????? :silly: Please, pretty please, please please please please... Okay I know why ask. Just kidding guys...
Oh well I am off now to hopefully come back with some news on SOWgb in the Linux environment...
While we're sort of on this topic. Anyone know how to install Windows on a USB External or Flash drive so you can boot from that drive into Windows? I don't mean install Windows FROM the external. I want to be use the external as a Windows boot disk even if the Windows is corrupted on the PC.

I guess the question is if you boot a Windows Install DVD and try to install Windows to the flash drive will it treat it as normal HD, ,make it bootable and install Windows on it.
I'm going to try and I'll let you know. I'm hoping it's that easy.

I don't know if fdisk will create a boot sector on the flash drive, I've never tried that. But diskpart will. Fdisk will make one on an SSD drive, so it might work. The simplest solution is to go to bootdisk.com. That is where the expertise and tools for making boot disks reside. As with your climb to generalship, best of luck!
