I don't play much MP,about one or two games a week, but I would like to see a few games played with couriers (if not all...just my preference). One problem could arise though with increased courier play, that is if a player is "writing" a courier and receives one, while in the "writing" process, the message being "written" is lost and the player has to start over.

This will be fixed in the new patch.

Some of our kriegsspiel group has been playing some small MP games against the AI using couriers, and the lowest visibility settings. We are aiming to build-up to a large game in early 2012. The old Prussian officer-training game of kriegsspiel was in essence an umpired game between teams, so the concept is not new to the group, although playing it on a PC is.
When we have played at corps level, one player commanded the corps, and the others each a division. At divisional level, one player commands the division, and the others brigades. We have found that couriers work really well. Am glad about the forthcoming fix re losing draft mnessages halfway through though LP. Thanks for that.
Some of us like to micro-manage regiments, and others like to command in a more broad-brush way. When we go for our big game, we plan to do a corps level game, but with enough players that each can do what they like best. So some can command brigades if they wish, and the rest will take more senior positions. With up to 10 players the chain of command will have a substantial human element.
The aim is that the big game will be first of many, and open to everyone here if they would like to participate. See some discussion here if you are interested

Do please feel free to post there too. Unlike yourselves, all of us are pretty inexperienced with the game, and would benefit from any advice you can give on running MP games.

I would be down with playing a courier game for communication between generals. Would really put timing and coordination between players to the test. I don't really think we would have to further restrict view though, just use couriers instead of talking (I find highly restricted view to be a bit overly tedious).

I think 100 yards would be sufficient to keep players from seeing the other side of the line.

Yes, couriers for communication only, not orders.

You can play with whatever settings you like. Soldier will still find something to complain about when he gets schooled. Now, he's holding turns hostage.
