Poor performance post- v1.4.

Game won't run. Keeps crashing. Hopefully we won't get any posts here, but if we do, we'll try to help you out. You can also post any bugs that you find here. IMPORTANT: Don't post mod related problems here!

@LP

Shouldn't Best uniforms and High uniforms perform the same, but Best take longer to load due to more uniforms?
.
Yes, Best should perform the same as High, but I haven't really paid attention to the loading time. You might be right that they'll take a little longer to load. I've actually noticed Best performing slightly better than High, but it could just be me. :)

I seem to be able to run the graphics fine and in Napoleon TW and Shogun they are highly advanced. I play the Zulu mod for NTW with over 6.000 various extremely detailed Zulu units attacking and entering into melee see pic 25-30 FPS.

Decreasing the quality of the graphics does little for me It’s the movement of units by the Ai that slows SOW down for me on the large scenarios 7-10 FPS so I normally play sandbox division scale and get around 12 FPS

there should be a Crossfire tab in the Catalyst Control Centre software, and there should be a checkbox to disable it. Even in the latest 3d games, dual GPUs can cause performance issues, so it's worth a try.

try disabling xfire/sli and see if frame rates improve.

I’d like to try that could you tell me where to do it please. Thanks !

Michael Caine and Burt Lancaster are even in it  . I can run it really smoothly that’s my point here about graphics.

My load time increased by ~50% with the latest patch. I assume it's the new graphic files being decompressed. The game speed may have improved by 1 fps. But I haven't noticed a decrease yet.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

Yeah, the big thing is being able to use the Best uniforms and get the same performance if not slightly better than you used to be able to get on Low uniforms. Gotta love those Best uniforms. :)

I've noticed something that I consider a bit weird. I've been using the "DbgLvl"-function that was advised, and have done some testing on the different graphical settings. All tests were done on the "Infantry Division"-tutorial.

The most remarkable thing thus far, is that the only difference in performance between the default- and highest possible Draw Distance-levels is on maybe 1 or 2 FPS.

When running on the default Terrain/Units/Trees/Objects -Draw Distance settings, I have about 6 FPS when zoomed all the way out, with both armies on-screen. When I press "Ctrl-T" three times to have all map-objects be invisible, I run on ca. 15 FPS. That's the biggest difference I can get. All the other stuff, (different graphical settings, maxed-out Draw Distance, where my camera is pointed, paused/unpaused, CrossFireX on/off, etc.), will only give or take around 1 or 2 FPS.

Perhaps it might have something to do with the AI-calculations, like someone suggested, maybe it's just spectacularly incompetently optimized, maybe it's some ungodly combination of the two - I don't know. But one thing's for sure:
I really wanted to buy Antietam, but will hold off for now.
^ This.

Anyways; if the AI really is causing the performance-issues, perhaps the patch has added some new AI-calculations, or something, that has made the game more demanding? (Also; didn't there use to be a setting to control V-Sync, or am I remembering wrong?)

Interesting, I have a similar setup which is why I made a suggestion (i7, 8gb ram, ssd, but single video card, win7 64bit). The game runs very well for me since I upgraded my machine.

cheers

Re: Blacklander's post above and how SOWG ran perfectly before the 1.4 patch. I played against him tonight and he's right....something's wrong, and yes, he had uniforms on Best, and it's not the mods. Don't know what it is but the game broke down after about 10 game minutes, after going all herky-jerky with movement and scrolling. It does so with him for SP and now MP.

He and I have teamed up together ever since TC2M came out, but now I'll only be able to play against, or with, him, if I go back to 1.3 for our matches, then back to 1.4 for my other games. What a shame.
