All,

Interesting topic here about the fording. I'm doing this from memory since I don't have access to my library - In the book "A (The?) Gleam of Bayonets," Some staff officer of Jackson's, who had lived in the area before the War, was quoted as saying "...I don't know why they, (Burnsides troops), didn't just charge across the stream and overwhelm us. I know that place near the Bridge. Tell me why you can't cross it with a hop, skip and a jump..." This is not a direct quote but close enough. So, which is it? Can it be crossed anywhere or just at the Fords?

P.S. - There is another quote from Catton's "Civil War" about this but I can only remember it was about Rodman and finding the Fords.

Jubal Early - this isn't the water that we are used to in the previous game, but I have been experimenting with the splats to see what kind of ground-water-texture I could come up with.

This is using two-splats to have a sort of low-creek-bed, one is the water texture, the other one is a rocky creek-bed, and rocky banks.

That's a subject that will be debated until the end of time. The ford's were one option, but he probably would have been better off just crossing in line formation right over the creek. It was a little higher than knee deep. Yes it wouldn't have been the easiest task in the world and there would have been casualties, but it's a lot better than trying to cross a whole Corps over a tiny bridge. I've been on the bridge and it's a lot narrower than you would think.. Pictures don't do it justice.

If Burnside had considered crossing the fords as an option, one thing to note; at Snavely's Ford (a mile or two south of Burnside's Bridge), Walkers entire Confederate division was waiting for him on the other side of it on the morning of the battle. I'm sure that was a factor in his decision making.. However, what Burnside probably didn't notice was that Walker's division moved North to the West Woods a little bit after the battle began, leaving the ford undefended (except by a few skirmishers).

Very Nice Davinci B) If the maps had those water effects for rivers and streams and also your detailed ground textures they would look so much better .

LP,

I agree. I have been there, too. It IS a tiny bridge.

DaV,

Great looking creek and creekbed.

Very nice texturing. The creek looks good, although it looks very shallow. If you could make the centre of it look a little darker and the underlying ground texture less visible, it would communicate a bit more depth.

Davinci,

Looks like you're making good progress on the various textures. Can't wait to see where this leads. Even as it looks in your pics right now, it would add a nice enhancement to the game.

Thanks, for the comments Jubal Early, Jack, Mazikainen, and Amish John .

I think that it would be possible to add a sort of darker effect to the middle of the creek now that you mentioned it.

The downside to that would be that the visual-depth would be ignored by the men standing in the creek, so it would only be for looks.

The, good news is that the water will probably be fixed one day, and we can have the same water-effects that were in the previous game.

that's great news, and I really appreciate the effort!

Well, I tried adding a center darker area to the creeks, the result didn't come out to well, it looks too uniformed, not natural. I don't really have enough pixels to work with considering that the creek is not very wide.

The process is quite easy, the splats are truly amazing and changing them is a very simple process.

I also doubt that we have even scratched the surface with what they can actually do!

Here is the Pic!

Another idea, would be to mix the lighter and darker colors in a sort of random display, that might make it look better.
