Attaching Art'y. Battery to Inf. Brigade

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

The difficulty is that a battery commander and a brigade commander are at the same command level in the OOB file. Changing this would require restructuring and expanding the basic design of the OOB file. This would have effects in many areas of the game and would require major testing to make sure that previously working functions were not now broken.

We have adding the ability to transfer command of subordinate units on the future game feature list. No promises but we would like to add this in. That is not the same as having a brigade CO command a battery but is relatively less complex.

I have had very good results in issuing orders to leaders at my same level in the command structure (within the same division). Marching Through Georgia showed us how. Just begin with the "no orders command" followed by "execute the following orders" then give whatever order you would like and for me it works 95% of the time.

One possible workaround would be to make one brigade, 1 battery divisions in an MP OOB. Then the functional 'division' CO would be a corps CO in the OOB. The 'Div' CO would not have the right toolbar but if all units are under human player control then this would not be an issue.

I tried this in this afternoon's game, after you told us about it, NY Cav. I asked an AI-led brigade to lie down (they were in front of some of our guns) and they did. Dunno whether asking them to attack would have had same results, but a great trick in the sort of game we had this afternoon where there may be some 'spare' units and the overall commander has his hands full. Thanks for the tip-off.

Make a custom OOB. No need to mod.

One can use scenario generator 3.0, create an OOB with a cavalry brigade. Edit OOB manually replacing 2 regs of cavalry with 2 art battery s. Now one has Horse artillery that will follow the Cav brigade commander. Last two regs of cav in OOB are ones to replace with artillery. Use a #1 gun and # 2 gun , When One detaches a regiment , the clone commander takes both artillery battery s.
