Doing it manually through the courier system is one way, but pressing the N key is the quick way. If nothing happens when you hit the N key, you probably aren't using the updated keyboard.csv

LP, I have that, but still need to use the several steps method I mentioned above. Hitting the N key without those steps produces nothing.

Does that mean my game is not working correctly?

You shouldn't have to click the commander from the OOB screen. When you have a commander or any unit selected, when you press the N key, that unit will be used in the Command Map.

Sonds like something I want. But if I install the new keyboard controls LP, that won't conflict in MP with others who haven't, will it?

No, the keyboard file is local to your machine only.
