In the division-level battle that Digby refers to I think in another thread - the one where he and Jack were startled by a Union brigade a few yards from them without having been seen - I found myself actually sending out couriers to the other players who were my brigade commanders, saying - in paraphrase - "Go on boys give em hell they won't stand!", complete with the exclamation point. Very immersive and the AI is quite powerful compared to any game I've played before, without exception. The MP experience is ... 'tremendous' comes to mind but no one word is sufficient. Buy the game - save the $30 for the DVD as the manual is included in the downloaded version and there are two expansions that you can use the $30 for instead and get tons of more content and exciting battles for the money - and try out the SP tutorials and move into the Brigade Scenarios and jump into MP as soon as you have the time. Great Caesar's Ghost! Marvelous game!! My word.Hah.....You can spot SOW Players sometimes on the street.they are the hollow eyed twitching fellows stumbeling along muttering things like;
'my left flank is broken!'or 'go on boys give em hell they wont stand!'
go on try it,you know it makes sense! cheers
Good one, that was amusing!

All,
No, a Bavarian Battalion. Note the Light Blue jackets on the men. And yes, it was a bit farther away.
Tank - the small flags you see are because the sprite ratio was 1:4 in that game. When you get stuck in on the Nap Mod, you'll see the Units in the SR4 games are HUGE. Most Battalions on either side have been split in two. The first section carries the Primary Colors and the second section carries a semi-invisible guidon-like flag. Works pretty well, actually. I have been playing in the Sprite Ratio 8 realm mostly, these days. Fewer units to keep track of, and the flags are easier to see. (Bigger armies on the field, too. Can you say 60,000 men on a side? Ha! I knnnneeeewww that you could...)
The actual Battle was a Line of Site one. The Bavarians had been sent in to the attack, with my Division in Reserve. The Germans waded into massed Austrian guns and were sent reeling back, the Austrians in hot pursuit. I had deployed my Brigades in two lines to fill the gap left by the Bavarians moving forward and stood ready to receive the Austrians when they arrived. Brutal combat for about 20 minutes before the French Light Horse arrived, charged home and helped drive back the Austrians.

PDF manual ... when you download and install the demo/game their is a "docs" folder within the folder where you installed the game. This docs folder contains the manual pdf. I suggest you back up this pdf when you back up the original .exe file also save your receipt and Activation code.
DVD purchase.... Well, you get a CD which looks cool and you get a 118 page manual along with other bonus content who knows what that is but I'm sure its worthwhile. Considering the printed manual most any decent book one buys costs easily $15.00 plus ... so you have this cool manual with this totally rad game you love.
One last thing over the years I have bought played a lot of games and surprisingly even the more expensive ones $50.00 plus games don't include a .pdf manual OR EVEN ONE that can be downloaded off the internet. (so then I must warm up my scanner) what a pain to print stuff out from their usually tiny manual. Anywho its just great that the Norbys have gotten so many thing right including the "small stuff".

This is Abner Monroe Perrin born Edgefield County, South Carolina born Feb 8th 1827 fought in Gettysburg and other engagements.
"Maj. Gen. Edward "Allegheny" Johnson's division was captured on May 12, 1864, units from the Third Corps—including Perrin's brigade—were called in to help. Leading his troops in a spirited counterattack through a very heavy fire, with his sword in hand, Perrin fell from his horse pierced by seven bullets. He died instantly.

Welcome to the modern world. The days of printed manuals, thick and chunky and worth a good read vanished from PC games a good few years ago now. Why? Cost. Cost and profit.
HITS & Couriers - a different and realistic way to play SoW MP.
