Well from looking at war time photo's, and comparing them to places on your maps, the similarities are absolutely stunning.. I can only imagine what it will be like when I go to the real battlefield and feel like I have been there.. Can't wait! And the data you used for Cemetery Hill must be pretty darn accurate as well, again from comparing them to photos.
It is very difficult to imagine how different north and west Cemetery Hill look today from how it looked at the time of the battle. Luckily, there is an 1863 image taken from the area of modern day Steinwehr Ave that gives us an idea of how open and expansive this part of Cemetery Hill was. It will be interesting to see how this game captures this important landscape.

You can get farther with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone.

I think now I'm leaning towards this for my trip. Instead of hitting Antietam on the way back, I was thinking of stopping by the Stonewall Jackson Shrine, and then hitting Richmond for the Museum of The Confederacy. I'd also like to see the A.P. Hill Monument/Gravesite in Richmond.

Yeah, Antietam would be neat, but I think the family will have seen enough battlefields after Gettysburg, and it'll be good to change it up some with the museum and Jackson shrine.

The White House of the Confederacy is at the Museum site as well. You can get a combo ticket for both.

Take a cruise down Monument Avenue while you are in Richmond and see how many you recognize.

Oh yes, definitely planning on getting the Combo ticket.

It's cool how the A.P. Hill monument is the only one in Richmond where the person it represents is buried beneath. It's also located in the middle of an intersection, which is bizarre.

Ok, as much as I would LOVE to see The Museum of The Confederacy in Richmond, the more I've researched it, it doesn't sound like it would be the best place for two little boys (4 and 5 years old). My wife offered to take them to a toy store or playground while I visit the museum, but I've looked around and I don't see anything within walking distance.

Anyone else know of a kid-friendly place near the museum that the kids could go to? If not, I'll probably have to scratch it off the list. :(

I would scratch the MotC off. My wife and I went and it was not as good as what I thought. The White House is a good, short, interesting tour. The Museum is the same stuff that you would see at any battlefield display. Uniforms, camp equipment, etc....

Thanks for the info my friend. I think we'll indeed scratch it off the list. We may just stop by The Stonewall Jackson Shrine instead. It's definitely a short/small tour, and there's plenty of room outside of the house for the kids to run around. :)

Thanks AJ. The kids will love that. They love horses, they ride them at my parents house. My parents have five horses and 20 acres of land. :)
