Did you run msconfig and uncheck WebRoot in the start section, then restarted your computer so WebRoot is disabled at start-up? Apologies if I'm taking down, just fishing for ideas for a solution.

webroot is def off...and besides, I've used webroot for years and never had to even turn it off before to play SOW (win 7 or win xp)...

We've had a high proportion of MP folks using windows 8 who have crashes at seemingly arbitrary times in game if they play. One or two claim to have fixed it, but the supposed solutions don't seem to work for the others. At least 3 players I know of have given up and just don't play anymore, some have switched back to windows 7.Perhaps someone has experienced similar issues?

if I leave the Mods "bugles & flags" and "penn campaign 1862" on I def seem to "lock-up, freeze" more (I just get a message saying windows has stopped working", and at that point i'm out of the game)! and I really like those 2 Mods, so if anyone has any ideas...

Do you have the stats on this?if I leave the Mods "bugles & flags" and "penn campaign 1862" on I def seem to "lock-up, freeze" more (I just get a message saying windows has stopped working", and at that point i'm out of the game)! and I really like those 2 Mods, so if anyone has any ideas...
As in, how many games you played that did/didn't crash with the mods on/off?

I've played twice with ALL MODS off and got through the game...what i'll do right now is run another game (with all mods off) on "auto" (and speed it up), and see if I can make it 3 out of 3...I should have the result posted here about 4:45pm ET...

ok...just finished a 3hr game (user scenario) with ALL MODS off...no problem. BUT, I really enjoy Bugles & Flags and Penn 1862...any ideas?

and, as an FYI: i'm using Win 8.1 64bit...game already has to run (like most programs)(smile) in "compatibility mode"...

I have 8.0, & though I have had some problems, I've actually made it through Gettysburg all the add-ons. Sometime I've had crashes with Bugles & Flags, & sometimes with other mods. I really don't have any answers for these behaviors, but then I'm not a computer junkie. What I am saying is that you can move through everything you have to move through, be it Gettysburg, Chancellorsville, Pipe Creek, Antietam, & the various
scenario sets & the Napoleonic wars, and even the Mexican war. So don't be concerned about Windows 8 compatibility; it's definitely going to allow to do all that the game requires. As to whether it will allow you to do all you want is another question, and I can't answer that one. B)
