Seven Years War Mod?

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Thanks Pom, unfortunately for me your sprites are too detailed and the Fontenoy mod won't run on my computer. You might want to dial down the clarity of the sprites and flags a little.

If you look at Allessio's Blenheim mod with the lower quality of graphics there, the game loses nothing in enjoyment but runs so much more smoothly. My 3 1/2 year old Athlon Quad Core can run army-vs-army games with that mod but nothing bigger than div-vs-div on yours. Its a great shame because I can see how much work you've put into the Fontenoy flags and sprites.

Pom,

Awesome. As I see it, Austrians would be (relatively) quick as they wore the same uniforms as the French, except with Black Gaiters. Re-skin the French white ones and, Voila!, Austrians. I say relatively because I have absolutely no skill at doing that.

All - the primary drawback to my 18th century mod is the sprites are not packed, which DOES cause a minor slowdown, even on my comp.

So, it's out here if anyone wants it.

Hi Tank,
I'm sorry you have problems with my mod,I did release a low res version, but if you are having problems with that as well, then maybe I need to look at the way I pack my sprites.

And you're right,Allessio's mod runs and looks great.

Jack
You're right, just a quick re-texture of proberbly the Dutch model,I just need to sort out the artillery for my current work.

JohnVW,

Correct. I don't have the ability to post it fr download, but I can send it via flash-drive to someone who can. However, this is important, these sprites ARE NOT packed like all the rest lately. They will draw hard on your comp if it is not a relatively new one.

John,

LOL!!!! No Mod of mine is EVER finished. I always tinker with it constantly. I think I've added at least three OOBs since it was "finished."

The Mod is very Basic. No Portraits or anything like that. Just straight troops and OOBs. It IS self-contained. You don't need any mods to run it. Unfortunately, I did only Hi-Res sprites for it. Originally it was for just me only. I never thought anyone would want it, but I have sent it to several people and they seem to enjoy it. I have edited it to a single flag for each Battalion and/or Squadron and have used my Ghost-unit setup so no flags on the cannon. (Glad to see Alessillo did that too). As I said earlier, the sprites are unpacked. Also, My OOBs are almost all with combined arms commands, ie: Foot, Horse and Guns. However, the OOBs are very easily edited if you want to separate them.

You can PM me from the address here at the SOWGB website. You'll need at least a 4 Gig Flash-drive. It is a Huge Mod.

the next mod will be about the Zulu War and the Mahdist War

alessillo - this is welcome news. Something we're unlikely to see covered elsewhere (with the exception of TW mods).

I'd recommend the following book which includes uniforms, oobs and pictures of the battlefields, such as Abu Klea.

https://www.perry-miniatures.com/produc ... ts_id=2468

It's also available from Amazon, as are the author's other books on the Zulu Wars and Gordon Relief Exp. All of which are worth reading.

The Perry Miniatures site is worth a look in any case. Has some great pics of their range of figs.

Thank you for the tip Crikey, at the moment I have these books from Osprey:
Zulu War 1879 - Twilight of a Warrior Nation
Khartum 1881 - General Gordon's last stand
British Forces in Zlululand 1979
Queen Victoria's Enemies (Southern Africa)
Queen Victoria's Enemies (Northern Africa)

I would like to make the new mod in another way, I do not want to do the mod alone, but I will seek the cooperation of other people to have a result in less time compared to the Blenheim mod. I think that you know that making all aspect of a mod is time consuming, I would like to concentrate only on the sprites, while another person makes the oobs, another the scenarios and so on. Last but not least I will constantly update about the state of the mod.

alessillo - completely understand why you'd want to do this with some help from the community. Making these mods is time consuming.

I'll look at pulling together some generic Sudan-type maps. They'll be sparsely populated in terms of vegetation/roads etc so might be quicker to do. A big, detailed map project is beyond me at the moment due to work demands.

Perhaps some others may provide a few OOBs once things develop. I have some sources too.

Once you've decided what you need perhaps start a new thread with a list of tasks. Hopefully people will rally round.
