Marching Music - use road order - allocating music to a specific army?

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Yeah, you can swap in new marching music easily to replace these files, as MtG says. It works as a mod. You just can't allocate particular tunes to a particular army using that method. B)

All,

Actually you CAN do specific music to specific troop types or nationalities. For example - In Alessillos mod, British Infantry march, either on road or off, (But not running or Double-Quicking), to the tune of "The British Grenadier" and that tune only. The Austrian Infantry march to a specific drum cadence also. I actually added a marching drum cadence to the "Allied" infantry for that mod, since they didn't have one. If you go into the SDK folder for SOWGB, and use the sfx.csv and unitglobal.csv files, you can adjust this to type. It DOES require some patience, but it can be done.

Thanks for the help. The options are noted.

For the record these are my conclusions.

Q. Can the 'march music' files (i.e. Mm_NSDMarch1.wav) which play automatically when the 'use roads' order is used, be allocated to a specific army.

Nothing I've read on here suggests so. They seem to be played randomly whichever side uses that order.

Q. Can I replace these 'march music files with other music in a mod?

Yes. Just rename your preferred music to the same name as the wav file and activate as per any other mod. The replacement wav file needs to have the same properties as the old wav used in game in terms of 16bit, mono, khz etc.

Q. Can I allocate a tune (listed in sfx.csv to a unit type in unitsglobal.csv - i.e. bagpipes for Highlanders - so that it plays whenever it walks?

Yes. It's a compromise option for my purposes as I had other plans for the unitglobal method (too complicated to go into ) but I may well have to go with it if other options fail.

Thanks for the help/various suggestions. B)

Thanks Crikey. Is there an easy way to convert a wav file to 16bit, mono, khz etc, if you have one in another format?

Hi Martin - I use the batch convert option on a free prog called Goldwave.

A quick internet search should find it.

Others will have their prefs.

I can't put in words what I felt the first time I was deploying my french division 300 yards from the British, guns thundering and "La Victoire est a Nous" started to sound like a thunder storm. :woohoo:
