If I remember correctly, as I worked at Breakaway during both of these releases and did some work on Waterloo, Antietam was a Firaxis release that Breakaway worked on. While Waterloo was a Breakaway release, but still used the Sid engine licensed from Firaxis. I do remember at the time having discussions about the difficulty of getting a game on shelves, wasn't really direct download at that time. It was hard and making more money than the investment to work on it was proving even harder.

At NSD we have very minimal out of pocket costs. Everyone buys their own tools, against money they will earn for the game. I pay for the company and it's costs by consulting. So the dollar value is covered, the big commitment is time. And that is HUGE. But it allows us to work on game types that are not profitable for larger companies. We could never compete on the same playing field, so we have to make sure we have something a little different.

Uhhhhh, Joshua

Sid Meirs was known an innovator in computer game design. I have been a game player for decades and I always looked out for the Sid Meirs' latest release. He dabbled in so many genres of games and each time he set the bar higher in that area. Perhaps you should try titles such as Earl Weavers Baseball,Pirates!, Civilization, Railroad Tycoon just for the gaming quality found in them. I spent countless hours of time engrossed in his games. His Gettsyburg game broke ground in the wargaming field. His name alone may have lead some to try out the game that normally would not have chosen it. For its time it was hailed as a major achievement and influenced the development of others.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Sid is a pioneer.

When I first worked on Sid's code and on Waterloo, I had never heard about him. I honestly didn't see what all the fuss was about. Then I worked on Civ3 and thought that looked pretty dumb as well. But after a while, I couldn't stop playing! Then you realize his genius, it's not in graphics, it's in awesome game design. He is one of the best!

Probably not. The thing that I really need is to be able to work on the game full time and I don't think I could raise that type of cash. Short of that, there's not much we really need. I consult during some other free time to pay for the company costs, and we all cover our own tools. I'm sure I could get a publisher, but I've gone down that route too many times. So we're staying lean and beholden to no one.

I guess the idea would be to purchase a share of the game, as the dev team works for theirs. I have no idea what the cost would be. I'm sure I would think it's a lot more than anyone else does. What's 2 years of your time, average 2 hours weeknights and say 10 hours on the weekends? That's what most of the dev team pays for their share(s). Or they had better :)

It would also be another job for me to take care of this aspect of the company and I need more time not less.

So I really appreciate your interest and I amazed that anyone would consider helping us support this effort monetarily, but in all honestly I do not see how it could work.

Let me put it this way; I'm a patron of the arts.

I don’t really know how anybody can say anything bad about Sid Meier , he has won a lot awards, based on his programming skills.

Norb actually reminds me of Sid Meier , due to his devotion for putting out a very sound product.

I think that in the later years, a lot of games still used his name, but he was not the lead programmer.

But, the award , goes back to a game that first came out years, upon years ago called Fields of Glory .

At least, that is the first game that I remember of it’s kind, I think that it came with seven 3.5” disk, for installation.

FIELDS OF GLORY was a hoot. Spent hours and hours with it. Little pixilated nappy figures, but it was enjoyable.B)

BTW I think we all spend a lot more than 20 hrs a week on this.
