If the unit's split, it only shows the unsplit button, and vice versa.
This isn't entirely true Reb. On the grog toolbar a freshly deployed skirmisher unit still has the battalion toolbar. It doesn't flip to the skirmisher version until the skirmisher unit begins moving. And it MUST be under AI control when it does start moving. If you keep the skirmisher unit on TC and it engages in combat the split/unsplit unit button becomes stuck on split battalion and essentially becomes a dead button. The skirmisher unit becomes unrecallable.
Yeah, this was a tricky one, the unsplit 'show condition' is based on the unit being in it's default skirmish formation. So, a few seconds of wrong button until the skirmish formation is acquired by the split unit. Wasn't aware of that TC issue. I'll check it out and see if there's a work around.
Thanks for pointing out this issue.
No problem. I never even thought of it as much of an issue because the workaround of just letting the AI be the first to move the unit is so simple and rectifies the issue completely. The only thing that took me awhile to figure out is that it wouldn't flip while the unit is TC'd. What Ive also figured out is that it isn't being in combat per se that's an issue. Its simply that even if you take a unit off TC while its in combat, the AI isn't likely to move it, as units in combat tend to stay in combat until they retreat. So the best time to get the AI to move a skirmisher unit is right when you deploy them initially since the AI will tend to always push them forward, and then the button flips.
The only other thing Im still uncertain about is at what point the button becomes locked and wont flip even under AI control. Its either after a certain amount of time, after becoming engaged in combat, or after the skirmisher unit retreats. But Im not sure which one it is yet. I still need to test that aspect of it out. I just kind of lost interest in determining that once I found a hundred percent easy workaround.
