Jim,AJ: I understand your desire for historical accuracy as I have the same syndrome myself. There are however reasons internal to the game engine that would make using, for example the gun barrel, as the activation point very expensive in terms of memory usage. This is one of those places where neither alternative is truly right and the designer just has to make their choice. In this case using the historically incorrect gun flags gives us the memory room to add a second artillery gun type.

You can get farther with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone.

About flags i saw in the trailer video of Gettysburg that nobody carry the flag. It is only flying in the air. I hope in the final game, the flag will be carry on by a soldier.

It seems between this discussion and the discussion about the artillery guidons, we have some flag issues. It's a couple things we'll have to make a conscious effort to overlook to maintain our "suspension of disbelief".
I know what you're saying Norb, but it's awfully hard to set aside that the flags WERE actually carried by a person and they weren't free floating imaginary symbols. I would define some of the items in the game such as the little winged thingies and the green halos in TC2M as symbolic; you know, items that are used to provide information but didn't exist in real life. I wouldn't want to be the one to go back in time and tell one of the veteran color quards they weren't allowed to actually carry the colors but had to figure out a way for the colors to magically float in front of them.Sire.Gauvain wrote:My Dad noticed that too. Re:
By doing what AJ suggests, would it add a load (sprites) to the game, otherwords, would it affect the games performance? or add to your work load of things that could be done, but not necessarily at this time. I'm all for on screen tools that help a player use the game, cuz thats' what it is, a game.

Re:"All I can see is the flags"
Thanks for your reply.
They are Symbolic ok, but every unit in the civil war had them. So i think it's very important for the authentic.
And why they are a "bow" for carrying it ?

Re:"All I can see is the flags"
Maybe I can spend some time to see if I can get them closer to the sprites location, so they appear more like they are carried or at least without the large gaps.
