'True Ground' New Terrain Mod Download

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Ok Davinci -

But it's the LSL file textures that I've worked on! How else would I be doing this?
Unless you mean something else?

Anyway, you don't like the water, which is fair comment.

I tried to make the water texture (water_real.jpg) as a reflection of the sky, giving more of a river look.

"Jolly" - I wasn't trying to be harsh or anything like that, I just thought \ think that it is too noticeable in the current shade that you are using.

I don't have all of the correct files loaded, sort of playing another game as of now, but something like the picture below, where the water doesn't collide with the terrain.

That's got some nice looking stuff going on Davinci.
I'll still go by trying the sky reflection method for now, it can always be adjusted I guess.

Also, I did 'tweak' the Height Map on this, which sets the river a tad bit lower, like its carving its way along as such, and a few other things become more definitive, like the Little Round Top rocks.

Cheers,

Jolly - Thanks,

Where is the "DD2.dat" file, I seem to be missing it?

Since the Map doesn't have any rocks or boulders, I going too guess that all of them are located in that file.

EDIT Post - I think that I figured it out, I just renamed the original DD_RT.dat to DD2.dat - and the boulders are now on the map!

Ran this mod last night with a scenario test-play. Overall, some very nice improvements, or differences, depending on one's preferences. From a distance the water color matching the sky color looks OK. However, up close, the water appears 'not of this world'. Davinci characterized it differently, but that's my take.

My bottom line preference for terrain treatments is 'Realism'. If that's not met, total immersion is hindered.

I'm trying to find a muddy glossy effect, that doesn't stand out too much, but water files are sort of hard to get right.

OK, the water needs changing! ;)

I'll dip my toes in it again! :)

Thanks,

The water files are extremely hard to adjust right, and it seems that every map requires a different water texture to look right.

I wonder if Photoshop has a glossy shiny water filter plug-in that we are unaware of?

I don't think that would do it anyway. We don't have much to go on other than trying to get a decent look on the water texture that tiles without looking daft (or alien as Reb puts it)!

Here's another attempt for now ...

some unwanted grass sprites in there, but I think that can be sorted.

To remove the grass in the water you need to place a 2 pixel buffer zone around the water in the Mapname.bmp file.

That is one of the flaws in the map design, it will place objects at least two-pixels at the wrong coordinates.

Too blue - Gettysburg creeks were sort of muddy or dry during that particular battle iirc.
