'True Ground SR1' - Scenarios & OOBs

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

'True Ground SR1' - Scenarios & OOBs

Post by Jolly »

I've just finished this one - a bit of a disaster from the start!
Out of the 3 objectives, the only one I managed to hold for a length of time was Devil's Den. I eventually got trashed in the Wheat Field objective, and never managed to get the flag flying at Little Round Top at all.

I reckon I'll have to do a major rethink on the strategy on this one! :)

Cheers,

Well, I beat this one just like I learned to beat the original. I consider it tapping an objective loophole because it involves just having to activate two of the four objectives.

All ya gotta do is activate the Devil's Den and LRT objectives within 30 minutes, or one earlier and one later, as long as you get 60 minutes between the two of them. That guarantees 3000 points. Obviously use two brigades each to capture these objectives. Then, since you don't take on as many troops by not going after the Wheatfield objective, your superior troop strength should provide for the engagement points you need to reach a Major Victory. If you capture most or all of the cannon at those objectives you'll have an even better shot at getting that win.

Beware the next scenario, the grog version of this one, it eliminates that objective loophole by also requiring activation of the Wheatfield to achieve a MV. And more grog stuff

Reason: Changed scoring flaw to objective loophole

Aha - I knew I'd messed up right from the start, sending 2 brigades chasing after the Wheatfield objective.
Thanks for the tips and advice Reb - I'm off to give it another go. :)

Thanks for the tip off's Reb. ;)

I split my forces between Devil's Den and Little Round Tops, took 'em, and held 'em, despite various Union counter attacks.
It still took a lot of intense concentration to keep on top of it all.
It's not supposed to be easy, and by jingo, this one certainly was not, despite my score. :)

Excellent my 'On the Other Side of the Pond' friend! You bettered my best effort by two 'Victory' standards: Score and casualty ratio. I only did better in what I consider the third standard: Strength - Number of soldiers remaining after achieving that Victory.

Congrats on a very solid Major Victory :)

________________________________________________________________

This final scenario of this 'GB Day 2 Map 2 SR1 series' replays scenario 30, with some variances, and then continues the battle into the second hour until all the forces engaged in this battle south of Wheatfield Road have entered this epic fight.

The attrition rate of the Rebels the first hour prevents an historical outcome at Houck’s Ridge. By the time Wofford's Rebel brigade enters the fray Caldwell's Yanks have pretty much vanquished all the Rebel attackers in the Wheatfield, where the final two objectives reside. Result, Wofford has no support and Caldwell easily delays Wofford's efforts to reach the ridge, while at the same time Burbank's US Regulars are arriving. It's really game over at this point as more and more Union forces keep arriving.

Still, the scenario will be competitive, you'll see. Your decisions on where to send your reinforcements the first 90 minutes are key factors in holding your ground, which translate to victory points.

One second left...
Having achieved a Major Victory I stacked my final reinforcements along and behind Houck’s Ridge to avoid the Rebel cannon massed at the Peach Orchard. Although ordered (scripted) to, Wofford's Georgians never made it to the ridge, they went after Caldwell's division scattered in the surrounding woods. If you're so inclined, unlike my option, you should have enough time to use your fresh troops to completely vanquish the enemy by plowing through Wofford's troops and going after the guns at the Peach Orchard, and beyond.

It's only fitting that the Union get the last Major Victory of this 'SR1 GB Day2 Map2' series, as they did that day on July 2, l863, at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

Copy/Paste :)

Guess you missed the link below the latest picture, er, diograph.

Yeah, they're like the Cyclorama I remember in Atlanta, Georgia when I was a kid...I was fascinated. The Cyclorama is a mixture of possibly thousands of miniatures melded into a gigantic painting of the Battle of Atlanta. It is a huge round display, taking at least an hour to walk around to really study and enjoy it. It was so well done you had to really focus to see where the miniatures stopped and the painting started.

Close, but no cigar!

The right flank suffered the most, with the Reb support advances, but also I'd not realised that I could probably have re-taken Devil's Den a bit sooner, using my support troops, pushing them more.

Immersive stuff Reb, thanks!
