'True Ground SR1' - Scenarios & OOBs

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

'True Ground SR1' - Scenarios & OOBs

Post by RebBugler »

I've just finished this one ….
Close, but no cigar!
GB30.jpg
The right flank suffered the most, with the Reb support advances, but also I'd not realised that I could probably have re-taken Devil's Den a bit sooner, using my support troops, pushing them more.

Immersive stuff Reb, thanks!

Nice post, Thanks :)

Yeah, took me three victories in a row before I achieved a Major Victory. Victories alone are tough, as you've also found, but Major Victories require MAJOR Generalin' skills. Plus, hindsight to the max, IOW, remembering which movements worked best considering past results. From your report, sounds like you know how to beat it now, here's looking forward to see your MV post.

Thanks Reb.
Like you said, with hindsight I got the MV on the second attempt.
The attachment TG30.jpg is no longer available
I think the key was to split some of the support brigades, using them to defend Devil's Den and the 2 Wheatfield objectives.
Also holding the Big Round Top until it times out and then using these regiments, which include 2 sharpshooter regiments to then counter attack the Confederate rear, who are trying to surround Little Round Top.
Of course there are a whole lot more sort of micro management going on, It certainly keeps you busy! :)

Cheers Reb, I'm hoping for maybe another TG map, a big ask I know!

Wow, a blowout! You really set the bar with this Major Victory! Compared to my MV, you blew away my scoring, casualty ratio, and end strength stats.

Congratulations on what I consider is an EPIC Major Victory Win :cheer:

Taking a break for now. I've enjoyed this TG trip, and your posts alone have made it worthwhile. However, for another TG map to happen, the prep work, fences especially, will take months. Frankly, I'm not eager to scale and realign tens of thousands of fence segments, and not sure I ever will be again. Time will tell, but for now, it's football season. And if my teams, Dallas and my Razorbacks, can stay covid free, maybe football will fill my TG void that I'm now experiencing and withdrawing from.

Thanks Reb - I like your term 'a blowout'! :)

and thanks SO MUCH for all your unselfish continual work on this project. It certainly got me playing again!
Enjoy your break and the footie (American that is) - we have a different form of football here, where you kick a ball around instead of running with it in your arms! ;)

My very best wishes,

David

'True Ground SR1' - Scenarios & OOBs

Update version 3.0 March 4, 2021
- Edited first post to reflect changes due to the introduction of the 'Gettysburg 9 Mile' map
- Addition of 'Scenario Master_SR1_Btn_GB_Day1', a scenario setup tool for GB day one scenarios
- Addition of this first scenario of the GB1 series:

GB1-01btn_July1-AP Hill Advances (C-Corps)

Length of Play: 3 1/2 Hours

Command: Army of Northern Virginia - Three Infantry and Two Artillery Divisions - Under the Command of Lieutenant General Ambrose P. Hill

Date: July 1st 1863
Location: Beginning West of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

Situation: The first shots have already been fired. Now Federal cavalry makes a second stand along Herr Ridge. Beyond the ridge lies Gettysburg, where two great armies are about to collide.
Mission: Secure the four objectives along Seminary Ridge (6000 points)

Forces Involved:
CSA - 21,288 troops, 114 guns
USA - 16,320 troops, 61 guns
________________________________________________________________

This scenario was originally designed to represent the full day one battle. However, it had to be trimmed down due to 'AI Freeze' (troops freeze up), so, no Barlow's Knoll engagement as planned. Still, there’s plenty of action to be had as you push your way through Buford's stubborn cavalry, then face the Iron Brigade, and eventually confront Reynolds' formidable stand along Seminary Ridge.

Since the Rebs have an eventual 5000 troop advantage over the yanks, the Major Victory bar is set high. And, it appears to be appropriate by this final play, reflecting the historic Rebel major victory this day with the advantage of a 3000 troop casualty count.

I am getting some random crashes, where it suddenly quits the game, and drops me back to the main launch game window. Nothing seems to show in the log for this as far as I can see?

Yikes, can't have that.  In all my testing, including when I experienced the AI freezes, I experienced no crashes.  This is the largest SR1 scenario to date, hope it didn't overload your computer, please keep me apprised.  Have you used your autosave to go back to the crash point and continue on?

I do regular saves, but leave autosave off. It may be some kind of overload as it is random. It was also happening when I started playing the TG full 3 days, same thing.
I'll carry on and see if I can provide more detail.

Worry not Reb, I think it's a mod clash problem, maybe something to do with the Terrain Mod I did for the TG Devil's Den map. I'm not sure why though.
