...OK, now if you could add a second and different map, what terrain type would you like to see on #2?
-Jim

Bonneville Salt Flats!!

I'm half ass serious too!!
NO rivers to waste time or wear out the troops
NO woods to wear out the 'T' key
NO hills
NO obstructions to obscure LOS
NO buildings to maneuver around
NO disappearing or hidden enemy units
NO roads, the whole map would be a road
NO grain fields
NO orchards
NO fences
NO nothing except flat land and two Armies duking it out

Just pure formational, attack and defensive tactics with no distractions.
This map should be a piece of cake to produce. NSD could do it with their eyes closed!

Although nowhere near historically accurate, it would be interesting to play a map like this. It could be called an alternative tactics practice map or just put it in the tutorial or something.

I think we could probably throw that one in for free!
....and I bet anyone could play it on High Res uniforms.

Something to think about though. Slightly rolling landscape with a few scattered trees to break up the monotony.....a house or two for reference.

it's my hope that there be more than 1 non-H but several, having just 1 would get boring after several contests. One key I guess is having a random starting point for each side. But I dont know this, you could have it so that those that r capable of making maps place them in MP.

dunno how that would work out, knowing what's involved with the splatting/heightmap process; there'd have to be some sort of wierd algorhythm-thingy (total non-coder speaking here) in order to generate random images to use for the maps...
i've already produced one such map for internal testing, took like 45 mins from start to finish; no fences, objects, trees, etc. Obviously historical maps would ratchet the time up exponentially, semi-random maps are much quicker.

If they were random, that would be an interesting idea, though it would be hard to get it on multiplayer, with everyone on their own random map.

Mordor would be cool - although Pelennor Fields would be better. Mons or the Marne would be my choice of course.

Seriously I think some of the best 'made up' maps are where you base them on a real area. Say near where you live and then just populate it with period buildings etc.
How about the Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado? Or better yet.....the Great Basin in Nevada where Reno sits?
To the West you have the great Sierra Mountain's, to the North, South and East....randomly rising ground with twist's and turn's and rolling hills as far as you can see.....with plenty of desert and sage brush to boot!! All sorrounding the "bowl" as we call it and the Truckee River....and if you haven't any of that high ground....you're @#$@!!

North Dakota, as flat as a pancake, no trees, just grass, and more grass, and more. Or, we could stage it in eastern Washington with all its gorges, great for artillery!

How about a map down on the beach. You could have palm trees and sand everywhere, the soldiers would get tired extra quick and the guns would overheat constantly.

Then we could have JC come by with our drinks!!!
