You're right, Beef. There's now way a regiment would charge back into melee after getting whipped the first time. Especially when taking fire while retreating.

I've noticed it happens when a unit's moral returns to normal levels. I believe that the problem is that the game registers the distance to the enemy unit before it takes into account that the unit is retreating, and it auto charges because it has enough moral to. It seems to happen general when an officer is nearby.
