KG + NYC,

I have no problem with G's Rifle/Cannister mod. Historically I can tear it apart. As far as the game goes, it is an excellent compromise to a deadly situation.
However, The game was/is pretty well set up the stock way. I have always looked at MP this way. The Host brings the game - play it or not. As for the cannister range issue - work around it. My game is not modded - still stock ranges. I have taken batteries with clenched teeth, but you can do it. I do not run my guns up to the line. I know others do. To each their own. And, as far as guns on the line goes, I will quote, (again), General Griffin at the Wilderness in '64. When asked if his order to run his Batteries up to the lines was correct, he replied "...Guns and Infantry? They're all the same. Get them up there, right on the line..." (Bruce Catton, "A Stillness at Appomattox.")

Hey there, Jack. It's good to be back around. Looks like we have a small contingent of Californians here. I'm sure we can work out a late start MP time.

As to the canister v. infantry debate, I never had too many complaints with the stock ranges. In my opinion, the problem materialized in the means by which it's deadly force was utilized (e.g., offensively, wheeling a gun forward until it was within 200yds. But if used as a part of a defensive front with close support of infantry, it's meant to be a hurricane of lead, difficult to reach by rifled muskets. As a remedy, I'd like to see fatigue increased dramatically on deploying unlimbered guns (unless retreating). It would make one of my favorite commands---retreat by recoil---much more useful. Otherwise, perhaps a slight adjustment to the damage levied.
