i play multiplayer every night and with the release of 1.4 my game load time has gone up 200%( not a joke, its probably higher) and 99% of that time i'm now loading unit sprites . what took seconds now takes minutes for something i don't want. what was wrong with the way it was?

Hi,

I noticed after the first 250mb beta patch that games loaded quicker although performance in game there appeared to be no significant increase in performance. After applying the 192Mb beta patch load times increased to pre patch times.

Now after the official 1.4 patch and Antietam, load times are still the same as pre patch ie long, and game performance is jerky, slow but playable as it was before. There are plenty of pauses when panning around.

I haven't noticed any real increase in game performance. I'm not sure that the packed graphics are being loaded as they are meant to as when the game was loading quickly with the 250mb beta patch there wasn't as much info being displayed as to what files were being loaded but now it appears that every file in the directory is flashing before my eyes during loading. Having said that, subsequent loads do go much quicker although all the same files are flashing by. Hope that makes sense?

These are not criticisms but an effort to try to help find out if there is a problem.

Anyway, back to the game. Many cheers.

Re: Blacklander's post above and how SOWG ran perfectly before the 1.4 patch. I played against him tonight and he's right....something's wrong, and yes, he had uniforms on Best, and it's not the mods. Don't know what it is but the game broke down after about 10 game minutes, after going all herky-jerky with movement and scrolling. It does so with him for SP and now MP.

He and I have teamed up together ever since TC2M came out, but now I'll only be able to play against, or with, him, if I go back to 1.3 for our matches, then back to 1.4 for my other games. What a shame.
Do you play against other players and they don't have this problem? I'm just trying to rule out something with his machine. And maybe also with Nudz since they seem to be the only two players having a performance decrease with 1.4.

Adukes brings up a good point. Nudz/Backlander - What mods are you running?

(different graphical settings, maxed-out Draw Distance, where my camera is pointed, paused/unpaused, CrossFireX on/off, etc.), will only give or take around 1 or 2 FPS.
That's very strange -- if pausing the game doesn't speed it up, then it's not the game or AI calculations, and if looking at the ground without rendering anything doesn't speed it up, it can't be the rendering. You paused the game, and looked at the ground up close, and still had ~15 fps?

Did you try running a sandbox game with almost no troops? If that was slow, it can't be from AI or troop numbers.

For what it's worth, the biggest difference in load times that I see is during the 'planting shrubbery' phase. That takes much longer in 1.4 vs 1.3.

Is that any map? Because the planting shrubbery phase definitely takes longer on the Antietam and South Mountain maps. The BMP's we used are double the size of the original. Doesn't affect performance while on the map though, but it was done to increase the pixels for the stone walls to make them 'thinner'.

I was using the original Gettysburg maps for my comparisons. This comparison was done without any mods activated. Were the G'burg bmps also changed?

No, just the Antietam battle pack maps.
