Voila! The finished product.

MTG,

Yes there are two types but the 2nd. one is the NCO File Closer which would be nice to keep but not vital. Thanks though, will check it out and report. :)

Okay - Report time. Nice Job MTG. That looks great. The NCO File Closers are still there so I must be wrong about the 2nd. type of Sprite. 2 things - I have decreased the distance between Sprites to 3 yards. Looks better. Also, decreased the Auto-fallback range from 100 yards to 75 yards. Will adjust that as combat time tells. Much cooler as they keep fighting longer. Thanks for all the help, you and DaV.

Jack , not that MTG didn't do what you wanted, such as removing the reserve section of troops, but shouldn't the skirmish formation be sort of un-uniformed.

Notice how the rear ranks in my fighting formation are sort of disorganized looking.

DaV,

Yes they should. AND they do when advancing firiing or, as most often the case, falling back firing. I'll grab a screenshot to show. Changing the auto-fallback distance from 100 yards to 75 yards helps with that effect. I set them to fallback before they have to and you get a really great effect of them trying to hold up the advancing formed Infantry.

All - Here's the screenshot of French skirmishers in action.

Jack - Yes, now that looks like a skirmish line, if you could have that look at the start of the formation, once they start falling back they would spread out more than that!

Play around with the first number in the code......such as......

(1-0-1).....change that to something like.....(5-0-1), but only do this for the men in the second and third rows.

It is sort of hard to alter the first row.

All,

Just a quick comment on what well used Skirmishers can do. I, (as Friant), was advancing towards the objective without Cavalry support, so had a Legere Voltigeur Battalion out front. Encountered an Austrian Division crossing in front of me on the road. Skirmishers deployed and opened fire. The Austrians manouvered to deal with this while my lead Brigade deployed in line to the left of the road. The Austrians attack developed towards my right, so my 2nd. Brigade deploys in that direction. Again, I detached thier Voltigeur Battalion, deployed as skirmishers and raced them forward. That is the Picture you see here. 2nd. Brigade is deploying behind its skirmisher screen, just out of the picture at the bottom. The skirmishers held up the Austrian advance for around 5 minutes, maybe longer, allowing my 3rd. Brigade to close up and take position as a reserve. At this point I retreated the Skirmishers and the main battlelines closed.

Good job to the Light Infantry. This new formation worked really well.

Question: Which version is to be used?

The one from Jack, or the one by Marching thru Georgia?

Mike,

It's your choice. The only difference is the spacing between sprites. Mine is 3 yards and MTG's is 4 yards. I'll post mine here again because I changed the spacing to 3 yards after MTG integrated the Reserves into the firing line. Use them both and see which one you like most.

Thanks Jack I appreciate the post. Okay cool I'll check out both.

Thanks for your hard work there Jack, keep putting out the OOBS, and edits, I'll be making a mod area for your handy work if this keeps up. :)

Jack I have a question: Do you mind if I compile this drills.csv into a mod so people won't have to overwrite any of the main files?

I'm just trying to make it easier for those who are new to renaming, pasting, extracting, and creating backups.

Cheers!

Hello Jack Sir.

Well I have to say I am having a hard time sitting still with wanting to package the new drills as a mod. I get that itch so bloody bad...well no more about the itch.

Here is the new drills skirmish formation edit you made. It is now turned into a mod...

Install Notes: Extract the contents of this zip into your <drive letter>:\NorbSoftDev\Scourge of War - Gettysburg\Mods directory

Special Note for everyone. Please make sure that you give proper priority status for this mod in the modifications area, for instance...

Road to Wagram Skirmish Formations
Road to Wagram Mod

Make sure that the order above is the same in your modifications area otherwise it won't work, but then again what the heck do I know.
