Hey Powell,
Yeah, when I un-install now I wipe out all traces of the previous install....
un-unstall via the un-install tool, delete all the game folders, run a registry
scan to take the registry entries out, de-frag and, when a new idea emerges,
re-install (just downloaded the install.exe again). I "think" something is up
with the runtime files, but I've updated all of those (see above for that
confusing situation) but why on earth it's not effecting anything else is
what escapes me. I really can't even think of anything else to try.
Thanks for thinkin about it though.

igor7111 ,

I noticed that you entered a similar post with a problem with the TC2M game over there, and on the TC2M Forum the guys 'linked' you to a page that other players were having a similar Win 7 issue. It looks like you got TC2M to go again, did you try the same 'fix' for SOW as you did for TC2M ?
Just a thought ...

Hi Chamberlain,

It was a ridiculously easy fix. There's a movie folder in TC2M,
all I did was delete the single file that was in there and the
game worked again. I checked the SOW files and couldn't find
a similair file. If anybody knows of such a file, I'd sure be
interested to know where it is. So, yeah, I checked. Good
thought though. I appreciate all the help from this forum, I'm
sure somebody will come up with a fix eventually and be awarded
with an honorary degree in computer science from, I dunno, the
University of Mars, my alma mater.......

And about this cannon fodder thing. Cannon fodder? Well, I
gotta say, that's the way I feel right now :S

Something has happened on your machine that has stopped the activation from working. I would try a system restore to a point before it stopped working.

Hi Powell,

Did a system restore to the end of June, 2012. (The game was working
up until a week or less ago)

Installed the game. Same result.

I'm fearing that my only recourse is to completely re-format my HD,
re-install the OS and start over. Whether I'm prepared to do that
right now is another matter. Just re-installing the stuff I use for
work will take me days....probably a week total. Doable, but I don't
know that I'm ready to do that when work is pretty busy as it is now.

Something has obviously broken, as I've run the game beautifully on
this machine in the past. How, or why, it works perfectly one day
and not the next, is a mystery to me. I've tried pretty much everything
I, and you guys, can think of. Guess I'll just chill out for now...if
I or anybody else thinks of something, I'll try it. I still am somewhat
bewildered with the Microsoft Visual C++ Restributable programs, of which
there appear to be many and suspect therein lies the cause. But I guess
I'll not know that unless I do a complete re-do of the entire computer.

Yeah, I don't think it has anything to do with that Microsoft Visual stuff. I have had the game installed of XP, Vista, 7, and never had a problem like that. I still suspect a virus program or something is messing with the activation stuff. Are you positive you have them all disabled or removed? What virus program are you using?

I hereby award myself an honorary degree in computer science (lol) from the University of Mars....

What I did was create a new user account, made it the administrator, deleted the old account
and voila! The game works. I submitted my registration, sent the requisite email requesting
a reset (will I be notified about that by email?) and am now back into "Landscape Turned Red"
(THE book on the Battle of Antietam for those who haven't read it).

Powell, put in a good word for me with the registration dudes huh? Can't wait to get back
into the game.

I can't take full credit. I remembered reading something about that awhile ago and since I
had resorted to trying anything, took a shot and it, to my surprise I guess, worked.
'spose some never to be known file in there got corrupted or whatever but I'm happy.

I'd like to sincerely thank all of those who thought about this and replied with numerous
suggestions. Even though none of you goofs came up with the correct response (that's a
JOKE) it's still much appreciated. The most helpful board I've had the priviledge to
visit. Thanks gentlemen.
