Jim Wrote:If you capture the booze wagon, then all of your soldiers execute the 'lie down' command for the next 8 hours. After that they will execute the 'toss cookies' command.
Alcahol played a part with some of the world's past most ferrousious warriors before battle. The trick was to let em down the spirits right before battle and then again after their YEEHAA victory.
In addition to the ancient Egyptian armies and native Americans who got all 'hopped up' on spirits before battle here are some others:

The term berserkers was thought to originate back from the Vikings who drank profusly right before a battle, pillage, etc.
"Berserkers (or Berserks) were ferocious Norse warriors who had sworn allegiance to the heathen god Odin. They worked themselves into murderous fury before a battle.....Drinking alcoholic beverages spiced with bog myrtle the night before going to battle, might have resulted in unusually aggressive behavior."

"To the ancient Celts, beer was a prelude to battle. The effects of alcohol ameliorated the natural fear of injury or death in armed conflict.
The strength of the Celtic attack lay in the ferocity of the first onslaught....Like the Vikings, the Celts often fought naked. Was this a consequence of the shedding of inhibitions brought about by beer drinking? As a battle strategy, it seems to have had only limited success. Soldiers usually keep their clothes on these days, but beer still retains its ability to create a fighting mood, as any bartender knows. "

"When the most devastating of all American wars threatened to divide the young country in half in 1861, beer played a crucial role both on and off the battlefield. Here again, beer was central to the lives of soldiers of both Union and Confederate persuasions. Since this bloody and long-drawn-out conflict involved many days, even weeks, and months of inactivity for large armies, soldiers turned to drink to help ease the boredom of non-combat. Homebrewing was a common activity among Union troops, as was distilling."

"British breweries set up a "beer for troops" committee in July 1942. "It is a national duty that every brewer should do his utmost to supply beer for troops in their messes.."

Could go on and on but what about the two supply wagon concept??

Maybe one of them could have pots and pans hanging off of it with the sound to match whenever it moved.

Well hoistingman, looks like yourself and i are against NSD and the peanut gallery!

Too bad, an additional food wagon and an ordnance wagon with targetable halos would add a lot to the game IMO! :)

Appears there's NO interest at all in any of our suggestions!

Oh Well..too bad...another easily missed opporunity to add more realism to the game :(

IRONSIGHT, good evening Sir!

How about a (main/satellite) supply depot(s) that is targetable, perhaps raidable, and dosen't need to be garrisioned, unlike a VP site? That would perhaps have a supply wagon of some type there with a type of content bar of what's available. Would this be something to protect or to be left to the mercy of who is in the area? The shoes/boots of GB that Lee's army needed, or other commodities (food storeages). Any thoughts on this idea NSD?

I'll be at the saloon downtown, Hoistingman4

Anything would be better than them dang idiotic arcadish VP site(s)!

Yeah a supply area with a targetable wagon...thats a good idea too but unfortunately the powers to be and the rest of the bunch here don't seem to give a sh_t!
WHY? Don't have a friggin clue!:S

Adding another (food)supply wagon/division and making it targetable and/or capturable is far as i can tell an easy thing to add to the code and would leverage the game a whole lot more realistic! ;)

But alas this all sorta reminds me why space shuttles blow up because of a $10 'O' ring!

Chill out, Be optimistic that something may or may not happen. "Cabin fever" waiting for the new game will pass. I'm sure there are going to be all kinds of goodies (surprizes) in GB that'll keep us busy for a long time to come. :) Anything discussed in this forum has been givin some thought about, wagons or no wagons. ;) Time will tell.

ironsight, all your suggestions are good, but we could be adding stuff for years in order to make it more realistic. In the end every game comes down to gameplay versus realism and in the end, gameplay trumps realism everytime.

Trust me, this game is very close to "how it was" but every little thing can't be added. Be hopeful for add-on content that adds to the realism.

estabu,
i realize the game would never be released if everyone's own personal wish list had to be added. As i've written code professionally in the past, i know this all too well.

But here's the thing with the extra wagon thing.

Is there or is there not an ordnance wagon already in the game? Of course.
Is there a sprite and accompanying code already developed for that wagon? Of course.

Are there or are there not already enemy target halos (or something similar) in the new game? Of course.
Is the code already written to support these target halos? Of course.

I don't see it being a gigantic leap requiring a team of a 100 or so NASA rocket science'd software engineers to add one more stinkin wagon/Division even with a blasted target halo!

Note: This might sound like it approaches a RANT but trust me, my world will not end without another wagon added. :S :P

Colonel Stuart, Do you use tabacca?

Nosuh, not in any fohm.

Neither do I...I find I like it too much.

In a long campaign such as has been discussed in another thread, it would be a good feature to raid, supply, and request supplies when foraging, on an army on the move scale and also on a national scale.

That was like a screwball with some heat on it, tough to catch. How about calvary setting IUDs for wagons, RR and alike?
