I'm not really sure of the reasoning behind the decision to shorten the QB battle when Waterloo and Ligny have a full battle scenario

The QB full battle scenarios follow the game scale criteria, one half hour of game time equals one hour of battle time. QB battle time wasn't shortened, the others were lengthened.

What file can these columns be found? Columns E F & G - Walk Speed (miles/hr), Mid Speed , Run Speed (miles/hr)?

I find this thread interesting and I believe there was a related thread discussing how long it took troops to move.....not an easy answer if I remember. Now with my minus key pressed for the slowest march, I timed a somewhat straight north to south road march on a 10 mile map and found it took about 42 minutes on the game clock before the lead troops reached the halfway point. That's about one mile every 8 minutes. Can that be translated into a modest real time in any way?

When I first read this thread I thought the designers had altered some of the underlying game parameters such as walk speed or rate of fire or the map scale. However, all I have found is that the messages seem to put a later time stamp in their text and the events themselves in the battle script follow this time stamp rather than the normal game clock. Thus nightfall is made to happen at 5 pm by the game clock rather than the 9.30 pm used for Waterloo. Certainly Waterloo events match the game clock times although nightfall for Waterloo at 9.30 pm is possibly an hour earlier than true dark really was in June 1815 but we do not actually know what watch setting the historic accounts used as compared with modern time zones. I have not yet tried to mod the Gettysburg series but it seems to me that Waterloo is following the normal "game" time the apparent speed of which of course the player can adjust using the plus and minus key.

If it is just an adjustment of the time stamp then effectively the rates of march and firing have both been effectively slugged.

The casualty rates at QB in my variant do appear to be high compared to historic values whilst the Waterloo values are closer to historic but Waterloo did have very high real casualties. I regard casualty rates in the game as counting every hit but of course not every hit would incapacitate a soldier e.g. Picton was wounded at QB but still fought at Waterloo. In my campaign many soldiers counted as wounded at QB and officers reported killed will still be included in the OOB for Waterloo. I will probably adjust the QB casualties so the outcome for the French is similar to historic and then make the same percentage change for the Allies as I would expect them to come out worse than historic if the French adopt a more defensive stance.

Why change the format? Can't QB be lengthened and adjusted to fit in with the other battles?

Adjusting the movement rates had no effect when I did it but I admit I didn't want to mess about too much as sometimes changing one thing breaks another. I thought it would be easy but I gave up. Limited knowledge when it comes to changing things in games. PC on, PC off is pretty much it.

I still play with my edits and try different strategies but after about 4pm the casualties really start to mount.

I'm not criticising the game as I love it (been a fan since 1st Bull run way back when. Still play it), I would love it even more if QB was a bit more historical. Even changing the time scale so 1 minute of real time equalled 2 minutes of game time so the battle didn't end at 5pm might be the way forward. Waterloo seems to play out pretty well in nine hours. I haven't got round to Ligny yet but I was pleased to see a full 7 hour battle included.

Maybe it is just me!!!

QB is historically represented as per this game engine! The other extended length scenarios you refer to are 'What Ifs' - what if the battle went on through the night, and the next morning it eventually got dark?

Sure, QB can be lengthened like the others, and made a What If, with a totally unrealistic time frame.

Not sure what you mean.

What if the Battle of Waterloo lasted 9 hrs? What if the Battle of Ligny and QB lasted around 7 hours?

They did, therefore are hardly "what ifs". Nor did they last through the night into the next morning or is anybody suggesting that. That would be a completely different game altogether. Maybe a troop of Challengers (Abrams for our American friends ) and Leclercs with their Night fighting equipment could go back in time like that awful movie "The Final Countdown" :laugh:
