Thanks for the info, gunship24. That's too bad. Guess I'll have to get my Napoleonic War fix with HistWar's offering .... *sigh* What's 60 Euros in American money??? :dry:I dont think mp will be possible under the guidelines. SDK says that any of these files found in the mod folder will disable the mod:
demoscreens.csv
unitglobal.csv
unitmodel.csv
defines.ini
munitions.csv
battlescript.csv
I use unitglobal and unitmodel for the new units and munitions for the artillery so it looks like it cant happen, unless things have changed.

Re: Napoleonic Wars mod
Thanks! Well, I can get the cheapest version - it's got everything you need, just ain't fancy - for about 40 euros = $51 USD ... good thing my birthday is comin' up in ten days, ain't it??
And I noticed, reading more on their website, that the game allows PBEM, LAN, and direct-connection for up to eight players, 4 vs. 4 (or some combination where total # <= 8, thereof I would expect), so that takes us from being Division Commanders here to ... Corps/Army there. I know from looking on Garnier's Campaign Mod site, that they've had battles with well over 12 players at once, several times, so fewer humans reduces the fun, IMHO. (Definitely have to use Hamachi for that one, I think, to maintain a steady connection.) Oh, well, if I don't like it, I ought to either write my own game program or just shut up and soldier on! Right?

Re: Napoleonic Wars mod
I was thinking about buying this game many moons ago. It's just to high of a price to pay for the game, besides I think I made the right choice when I decided to slide out the money to purchase SOW.
The demo he has up for download doesn't convince anyone (including myself) to purchase the game since it's so well... disgusting (very poor workmanship). I know he is only one man doing the work, and that is very admirable, and quite astounding, but I think he is hurting himself more with having it up.
With SOW, no problems their, the demo is spot on, and it was because of the demo (TC2M helped allot), and how well put together, and Norb's promise to one day rid me of that dreaded serial activation that finally had me fully convinced to hop on board, and it's been the best money I have spent in years.
Okay why am I rambling on...simple really, I know that Norb, and the great team will eventually allow mods to be used in the MP arena, and I would sheepishly suggest that you keep your hard earned money in your pocket for the next great, fantastic, stupendous release NSD will no doubt roll off the table top by the year 2030.
...oh one more thing, My birthday is the 31st...aaah the horror of it all.

Re: Napoleonic Wars mod
Hey Davinci, when are your maps out? Hope its soon and we can have some more ground to play on.gunship Hey, How is everything going!
Question – Have you packed the Napoleon graphics into the new file system as of now?
Also – have you noticed any benefit as far as smoother-game-play, increased fps, etc?
The reason that I’m asking is that I plan on doing the same thing with the TC2M Infantry – but I’m postponing it until I see how everything is going with your mod.
Thanks,
davinci
Yes I have packed all the sprites up for the new 1.4 version, not out yet, but its ready to go. To be honest I havent noticed that much of a difference, but ive only tested on about 20,000 men per side. the only thing I can see is that the sprite it loads is much smaller than the old ones so you might be able to have a larger number of men where before you were struggling, but then theres probably a cliff where the benefit drops off. It certainly reduces the size of the files by about 2/3 though. which is good for downloading.

@Michael Slaunwhite: I agree with everything you wrote about demos and why I bought SOW and not Histwar's. Congratulations on a birthday on 31 Jan!! Don't cry about it.
This is my sixty-fifth birthday. Yours can't be much worse .. or something. heh

Re: Napoleonic Wars mod
Hey, gunship – I am probably going to take the easy way at first and just try to add in the newer terrain splats into the existing maps.Hey Davinci, when are your maps out? Hope it’s soon and we can have some more ground to play on.
This way the community could give their input on what they like and dislike about the newer fields.
Since, Crikey and 2ndTexas are both doing authentic maps, after redoing the other maps, I’ll probably do some fictional maps, which is basically large open areas with knolls, and hills near the edges of the maps instead of in the center.
Thanks, for the update on this. I think that the newer system works well for some but not everybody. To be honest I haven’t noticed that much of a difference, but I’ve only tested on about 20,000 men per side. The only thing I can see is that the sprite it loads is much smaller than the old ones so you might be able to have a larger number of men where before you were struggling.
I can’t really say that I have seen any improvement, but I’ll also add that my graphics card is on the lower end of technology, basically it’s good for watching movies, not playing games.
The Answer to Your Question – The team needed a slight break after the release of the Antietam Map, and the latest patch. They did seem to work through the Christmas Holiday .
So, this has postponed the release of the maps, which I’m guessing will be addressed after they have rested up, hopefully within the next couple of weeks.

The only true logic is that, there is no true logic!

Well Happy 65th Birthday to ya Sir, and I hope many, many more!.@Michael Slaunwhite: I agree with everything you wrote about demos and why I bought SOW and not Histwar's. Yeah their Demo really isn't anything to write home about. It would be in his best interest to polish that demo up, or at least keep it updated to the version he is selling so people wouldn't be walking away thinking that if the demo is that bad, to heck with paying for it.

I muscled through the demo, and I really like the game, but I can't trust the paid version.
It won't be bad, I struggled through 49 others, this one shouldn't be too taxing (I want the SOW addon packs this time.).
Yep it could be worse, I could be turning 14 again, and that wouldn't be too good. :pinch:
Happy Birthday!
