Adding Trees...

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

D,

Okay - have the trees as I want them. Sweet! Wheat is thinned out to show kind of a stubbly field aspect. The corn is a problem. Can't thin it out enough to make a difference. Really sucks up the FPS as you pan over it. Tried running up the density numbers but to no avail. Will keep trying.
HOWEVER - its a entirely new map! Walked a Brigade over it, just marching. Really cool. Don't know how to change the trees to the Fall colors though. Have the Download, just can't figure it out.

D,

Can assume the corn can be taken out. Don't know how to do it. Ran the density up tp 500, but it still creates FPS problems. Everything else runs great.

Jack – I would say that if you have changed the density and the corn is still showing up as before, you are probably editing the wrong column.

This is how the KS.csv file will look if you removed the corn graphic.

Basically, if you remove the graphic as listed below, there is no way that the corn can show up!

IDS_MAP_Corn,175,-0.2,5,1000,3,10,-2,0,1,,1,,,
IDS_MAP_Corn,176,-0.2,5,1000,3,10,-2,0,1,,2,,,

This is how the file should look if you changed the density correctly to 500.

IDS_MAP_Corn,175,-0.2,500,1000,3,10,-2,0,1,,1,GFX_Corn_1,,
IDS_MAP_Corn,176,-0.2,500,1000,3,10,-2,0,1,,2,GFX_Corn_1,,

You are making the changes in the Mod \ Maps – folder, correct?

I’ll send you the fall trees, along with all of the edits this weekend!

D,

Got it. I was only editing one of the two lines. Let me try the other before I remove the lines themselves. Will advise.

D,

That did it. Visually, it is almost the same. Hawever, FPS wise it is much easier to pan over it then it was before. Will try moving troops through it and see.

Will be great to have the fall trees and the dead growth.

You are a God.

Jack – there are also other things that you can probably do that doesn’t require too much processing power, such as a grave yard.

The stone-wall also doesn’t seem to affect the FPS that much, either!

Notice, that I had to thin out the corn, the corn-fields are pretty large, so that was having a negative impact on performance.
Image
I decided to change the rough terrain around a bit, instead of putting the dead limbs in the golden-wheat fields, I put them in the dirty wheat-fields.

Another idea would be to create a couple of orchards; they use smaller trees that shouldn’t affect the FPS that much.

Sort of like an orchard in the northern part of the map could have a stone-wall around it, and another one could be place on the other side of the map with bushes around it!

Don't know how to change the trees to the Fall colors though. Have the Download, just can't figure it out.
Jack – you used to edit the other game, correct?

OK, these files are basically the same, except somewhat easier in most cases.

Now, your numbers will be different from mine, my graphics are twice the size as the default ones, and I changed the names on most of the trees, but the concept is the same.

First, list the files in the gfx.csv in the Mod \ Logistics – folder.

You don’t have to add the GFX_ at the start of the files, just list them like the old game.

Next – Create a Graphics folder in the Mod – and then Create a Terrain folder inside of that…. Mod \ Graphics \ Terrain

Place all of your new terrain stuff inside of the terrain folder.

gfx.csv - Example from Logistics folder
Tree_Fall_2,Tree_Fall_2.dds,256,256,0,0,2.2,,,,,,2.2,1,1,5000,-1
Tree_Fall_3,Tree_Fall_3.dds,256,256,0,0,2.6,,,,,,2.6,1,1,5000,-1
Tree_Fall_4,Tree_Fall_4.dds,256,256,0,0,2.6,,,,,,2.6,1,1,5000,-1
Tree_Fall_5,Tree_Fall_5.dds,256,256,0,0,2.6,,,,,,2.6,1,1,5000,-1
Tree_Fall_6,Tree_Fall_6.dds,256,256,0,0,2.6,,,,,,2.6,1,1,5000,-1

Fallen_Dead_1,Fallen_Dead_1.dds,512,256,0,0,1,,,,,,1,1,1,5000,-1
Fallen_Dead_2,Fallen_Dead_2.dds,256,256,0,0,1,,,,,,1,1,1,5000,-1
Fallen_Dead_3,Fallen_Dead_3.dds,256,256,0,0,0.6,,,,,,0.6,1,1,5000,-1
Fallen_Dead_4,Fallen_Dead_4.dds,192,192,0,0,0.7,,,,,,0.7,1,1,5000,-1
Fallen_Dead_5,Fallen_Dead_5.dds,512,256,0,0,0.8,,,,,,0.8,1,1,5000,-1
Fallen_Dead_6,Fallen_Dead_6.dds,512,256,0,0,0.65,,,,,,0.65,1,1,5000,-1
Fallen_Dead_7,Fallen_Dead_7.dds,256,228,0,0,0.5,,,,,,0.5,1,1,5000,-1

Fall_2,Fall_2.dds,512,512,0,0,0.8,,,,,,0.8,1,1,5000,-1
Fall_3,Fall_3.dds,512,512,0,0,0.8,,,,,,0.8,1,1,5000,-1
Fall_4,Fall_4.dds,512,512,0,0,1,,,,,,1,1,1,5000,-1
Fall_5,Fall_5.dds,512,512,0,0,1,,,,,,1,1,1,5000,-1

Next, just add the new names into the KS.csv – file that is in the Mods \ Maps folder.
KS.csv Example from Maps folder
IDS_MAP_Woods,30,-5,130,500,0,92,-45,0,,,,Tree_Fall_2,Tree_Fall_3,Tree_Fall_4,Fall_4,Tree_Fall_6
IDS_MAP_Light_Woods,35,-5,15,500,0,92,-45,0,1,,,Tree_Brush_1,Tree_Brush_2,Tree_Brush_3,Tree_Brush_4,Tree_Brush_5
IDS_MAP_Light_Woods,38,-5,40,500,0,92,-45,0,1,,,Winter_1,Winter_5,Winter_2,Winter_4,Winter_3
IDS_MAP_Woods,40,-5,35,500,0,92,-45,0,1,,,Fallen_Dead_6,Wheat4,Fallen_Dead_5,Wheat4,Fallen_Dead_1

Brother,

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, Windows 7 will not let me copy it into a new or modified folder. Been over it several times, in various configurations. No dice. Bummer, dude..... It's weird because some other changes I've made have worked perfectly, like adding all the new trees. I'll figure it out at some point. In the mean time, having some great battles among the trees. Did have to take the corn out though. Sucking up to much FPS. Map still looks great without it.

Game On!

OK, move the files to the Desktop, edit them, and then copy them back into the correct folder.

This will avoid them being locked while in the Windows Explorer, I had the same thing happen with Vista, years ago, but the problem seem to have went away!

Another thing - Copy and Paste the below line into your GFX file - and then just edit the first two columns pertaining to the name of the graphic.

Tree_Fall_2,Tree_Fall_2.dds,256,256,0,0,2.2,,,,,,2.2,1,1,5000,-1

These two that is high-lighted!
Tree_Fall_2,Tree_Fall_2.dds,256,256,0,0,2.2,,,,,,2.2,1,1,5000,-1

Basically, most of the files from the fall tree mod posted are the same size, which is 256x256.

Now, the name that is in the first column - is the name that you place in the mapname.csv file, for that graphic to load!

A good program to view the files would be Irfanview - free internet download, this will also display the file size information.

Jack - try this Mod - It is un-tested, and I had to reduce the size of the graphics, considering that my game is modded using larger graphics.

So, I’m not sure how the spacing will look, and you will probably have to reduce the density levels to fit with your computer specs.

I have also fixed the road system that you posted about, so try that out also, and post back the results.

OK - the page Attachment System is not working, or the file may be too large (3.73MB) - so I'm going to post it here!

I think that you are supposed to let the first page load, and then wait for the second page to load, then Click the Slow-Download Icon.

Map2 - fixed the csv file
