I wasn't implying that it was a bad book, on the contrary it is very good. His battle descriptions are very good in that they give a good overview of who did what and when, at least at the corps and division level. But they tend to be short and to the point. They don't have much in the way of 1st person observations from those who were there. But if he did, the book would increase from door stop size to a cinder block.I am interested you found Chandlers "Campaigns..." a little dry. I found his attention to detail solid and a number of his Battle descriptions outstanding.
