Hi.

What is the ETA on this excellent mod?

Cheers.

MTG,

Good call on the books. I have all of those, (in bloody storage, of course.)I am interested you found Chandlers "Campaigns..." a little dry. I found his attention to detail solid and a number of his Battle descriptions outstanding. I will give you he was writing in a broad sweep and his focus was not on nuts and bolts of each battle.

I wasn't implying that it was a bad book, on the contrary it is very good. His battle descriptions are very good in that they give a good overview of who did what and when, at least at the corps and division level. But they tend to be short and to the point. They don't have much in the way of 1st person observations from those who were there. But if he did, the book would increase from door stop size to a cinder block. :) Usually I use Chandler to get a good flavor for a specific battle or campaign. Then I go out and buy a book on that specific fight.

I really hope that you also use your gift to add more specific Civil War unit uniforms as well. Your renders are absolutely gorgeous!

MTG,

No. Sorry if I gave that impression. Under no circumstances did I think you thought it was a bad book.

Had II corps merely bypassed Hougoumont, the British right most likely would have collapsed. If Wellington reinforced it, Napoleon would have been able to carry out his favorite tactic, flanking the enemy and delivering the coup de gras in the center.
So curious that in every battle of Waterloo we fight in NTW3 the french players naturally try this flanking movement forcing the Duke to move reserves and the great part of cavalry on his right.

Does it work?

The Allied right north of Hougoumont was pretty dense in numbers. However also off the map about 2 miles west was the entire 3rd Dutch Belgian Division, about 6500 infantry and 2 batteries. These were half militia, half regular but would of been perfect to hit the rear or flank of any French attack against the right. I could study this battle for hours!

Keep in mind that the french player usually knows when the prussians kick in. This makes easier to concentrate troops against the left while in reality Napoleon did not know when and how many prussians could menace his right flank.
IIRC I set Lobau to 20' delay and the Guard to 30' to avoid a full rush against the brit flank.

I've played Waterloo 2vs2 a couple of time so far with french, both time we won but the prussian delay turned to be excessive set at 40'. We lowered to 30' in the second battle, this time the player leading the allied right decided to attack right of Hougomont. Even though he caught the french by surprised routing Jerome's division and Kellerman's cuirassiers supported by Pire's light cavalry, he found himself too exposed on that flank.
That was the right time to attack in the center: I moved D'erlon's corps forward supported by Milhaud's division and the light cavalry division: they only found some nassau and Kempt's brigade on the crest, few cavalry to resist the big charge left of Papelotte and the artillery half destroyed by the 30' pounding of the french "grand battery". Some great time for me. Ten minutes and the allied center had ceased to exist. We then rout the right and waited for the shocked prussians who found noone around La haie Sainte.

The great mistake for the allies was to believe they could succede by attacking. Of course the only chance for them is to wait for prussians, delaying french as much as possible. I think I still have the replay somewhere. All in all an outstanding refight to see and at high graphic details it's amazing if you love uniforms. Sad that CA did not provide a more stable game and some more realism like different flag for different unit, variable reinforcements and a decent AI to detach groups: Waterloo played 4vs4 should be perfect.
