I also might check out The Civil War: A Narrative. Vol 3: Red River to Appomattox by S. Foote - although I haven't read that particular volume.

The Gettysburg Companion
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gettysburg-Comp ... 4&sr=1-1#_
Eye witness accounts of the battle, weapons, Units, medicine and OOBs basically everything covered and really wonderful illustrations’ of the units. I bought it with the Waterloo companion and they are both fantastic books.

Can anyone recommend the best tactical study on the battle amongst all these books? I like to read about the Historical Scenarios before I play them because it adds to the experience and I learn a lot. So far I'm leaning towards:
Thanks
I'm interested in 'who did what' rather than why they did it.
Thanks

For us scenario designers of Gettysburg...it's our Bible
Also use Gottfried's Maps...but it is not as precise, and has some possible inaccuracies, least it conflicts with Laino.

Alas, the Laino book is gone from Amazon and I can't find it using bookfinder.com. I'll keep looking. The Gottfried book is available. Now I really want it.
Thanks

Can someone post the publisher for the Laino book? If they're still around maybe I can get it from them.

Re: ACW books
Found him on Military History Online and messaged him to see if he can locate any copies.
Update: He gave me a list of bookstores which might have copies. The current book is out-of-print but they are re-issuing it in three separate volumes with additional content late in 2012.

It is currently out of print, but you might want to phone/email the Gettysburg National Military Park bookstore, or the American History Store, or Battlefields & Beyond, or the Civil War Wax Museum (all in Gettysburg, and all bookstores).
