SoW can look epic at times. There have been many times in a battle when, if Rod Steiger or Christopher Plummer had galloped by, I would not have been surprised at all. The game looks that good.
I think it is such a shame when people see screen shots and complain at the old-fashioned 2D sprite graphics and look no further. I hate how the graphics of games have overtaken gameplay completely. The TW franchise is an excellent example of a game that looks stunning but plays abysmally.
I prefer to play using HITS with a first person ground-level view and the game looks even better at this height due to it being a perspective on a battle our eyes come to expect as normal. The elevated camera view to me takes away much of the beauty of RTS games like these.
Remember too that Sow is unique in the HITS/1st person view as well as having the option for live couriers to send orders to your units or sub-commanders and to communicate with players in MP games. These features really make the game stand out.
