Seven Years War Mod?

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Hi Saddletank

I replied to your pm before reading your latest post so i didn't address some of the info above. I agree with you as far as getting the game up and is a priority and the rest can come later. That's why I have only done the the Leuthen OOBs and spent more time than I want to trying to get it into the game. The game is ready for an initial trial with tweaking and improving once it has loaded but therein lies the problem getting it to load. Perhaps one of the KS team might know why it stops at loading graphics. I have packed and re packed the sprites thinking this to be the problem but keep getting the same result so any assistance would be appreciated. In the meantime I'll plod on and will have learned heaps by the time Its finished

The log file will tell you where the problem is. It sounds as if one of the 3 csv files, unitglobal, unitmodel or unitpack, has an error in it. That's not surprising since you are building these three files from scratch.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

Hi Marching Thru Georgia

I have checked it each time it crashes and it has pointed out errors on some of the sprites that it cant find. When I fix them it then stops loading at "Graphics". This makes me think that the packing of sprites is flawed so I redo them and it stops at the same place. I have searched through the files you mentioned but am missing something as you said probably in the csv's. Can you confirm whether stopping at "Graphics" would be a packing issue or csv one.

remus - Can you post the exact wording of the error, copy and paste it, that helps out a lot with trouble shooting why the game is stopping!

Hi Davinci

There is only a short intro into the log file and basically it crashes with the word "Graphics". Nothing of interest before that. I usually am quite good at finding and fixing errors from the log file but because there is nothing but Graphics described it offers little clue as to whether it is a flag graphic, a packing of sprite problem or a csv issue. Trying to locate which one it is becomes a long drawn out process without being sure which one it really is,so it becomes a trial and error effect. Any input gratefully accepted

Understood!

I would separate the units and flags and work on each one with a mod that you know doesn't have any other errors.

Basically, take one of your mods that you know works, and add in one unit at a time, then do the same thing with the flags.

.

Yes, True, this is why I stayed away from the packed sprites, they work but are a pain to get in the game.

Remus, if you want to send me what you have I am happy to start looking as well. Have you got a basic shell of the mod running (e.g. a SYW mod that's using ACW sprites?) That is a good starting point. Then you add your SYW flags and sprites.

Hi Saddetank
I have just finished redoing the packing again of the sprites. What I am going to do is take your advice and work with the Fontenoy mod to see if it works there. It might at least show my whether it is the sprites ,flags or csv's. Give me a day or two to see if it works and if not then I'll send you data that you might be able to make sense of. I was able to get the AWI into the Gettysburg game when it was under the old system of no packed sprites, so methinks I am missing something, probably simple. I can send you a copy of the Leuthen as a starting point, who knows the problem might be there.
