Bugles & Flags XIX
Re: Bugles & Flags XIV
I've just started to learn SOW 6.1. My operating system is Windows 7. For several days I've been downloading Bugles and Flags IX and trying to install it without success. The file downloads but when I try to install it, I get a window which states,"No Archives found," and "The archive is either in unknown format or damaged." I've searched but found nothing that helped.
I was successfully able to install Bugles and Flags 10 but nothing higher. I've tried using 7zip and Win.war.
I did notice #10 loaded more slowly the #IX. Bugles and Flags IX starts downloading, but about halfway through the process, it seems to disappear but appears in my Download folder. So what am I missing? I'd appreciate any help.

Re: Bugles & Flags XIV
I suggest you download and install version XIII, link on first post. Some issues have been reported in XIV and I'll have an updated version up in time. Unzip only with 7zip.
Don't know why version XI isn't working for you, or, why you're installing an older version...

Re: Bugles & Flags XIV
Sorry for the delay getting back to you. I was called away.
I installed Bugles and Flags 10 because that was the only one that would install. However, today I tried several times to download XIV, with the same result, until finally it downloaded completely and I was able to install it successfully.
Thank you for your response.

Re: Bugles & Flags XIV
I've been trying this mod on and off for a few weeks now and I think I'm ready to leave feedback. (Disclaimer, I'm fairly new and I haven't had the time to read all dozen or so pages of feedback)
This one mod really feels like two to four mods bundled together, and I would have preferred to choose the elements separately.
Pros:
-The flags are beautiful and a big improvement over stock, the brigade flag issue notwithstanding. Obviously, a LOT of effort went into these
-Likewise the bugle calls, etc. are really cool. I LOVE that you separated the rebel yell from the federal charge
-Love that you made the charge command icon stand out from advance.
Cons:
-I'm struggling to use the new toolbar effectively. I get that this is my fault. I'm sure an expert user can get much better results than the stock toolbar. However, I am not there yet, and I would have preferred just to have the bugles and flags and worried about the toolbar later. Perhaps a Youtube video demonstrating expert use of the toolbar would be helpful. Here are some specifics:
- I don't understand fully how to use the 6 or 7 or so advance commands.
- Likewise for the new formations
-Likewise with the new retreat options, partial retreat, "just run", etc.
- The buttons are already quite small. I don't quite have the dexterity to make the correct selection
when buttons are further split into two. Also, I don't see a need to split a button with a
"doublequick" version of the same command.IMHO, having a single on/off doublequick button is a simpler
solution. At any rate, it doesn't save me any time because of the dexterity issues.
-IMHO, there is no need for one mod to change my splash screens unless it is a full conversion for a new battle (ex Lynchburg, Pea Ridge, etc.). I was quite happy with the Norbsoft SOW Antietam splash screens that I purchased. I wish I had them back. (I love the old photo with McClellan and Lincoln in a tent).
-Likewise with the courier screens, etc.
Thank you for all your work.

Most of the toolbar functions are noted in the Intro in Modifications, but you're right, the explanations are not descriptive enough, especially the multitude of additional formations added over the years.Cons:

For me the split buttons work fine because I play on a 47 inch TV with the resolution set at the default 1024x768. Unfortunately I don't have a compromise version for folks running higher resolutions on smaller screens...maybe some day.- The buttons are already quite small. I don't quite have the dexterity to make the correct selection when buttons are further split into two.
If I'm understanding your comment here, the one button on and off suggestion isn't modable. Also, I don't see a need to split a button with a "doublequick" version of the same command.IMHO, having a single on/off doublequick button is a simpler solution. At any rate, it doesn't save me any time because of the dexterity issues.
These are easily changed back to stock displays by going into the Graphics/Screens folder and deleting the respective screen files, or renaming them.-IMHO, there is no need for one mod to change my splash screens unless it is a full conversion for a new battle (ex Lynchburg, Pea Ridge, etc.). I was quite happy with the Norbsoft SOW Antietam splash screens that I purchased. I wish I had them back. (I love the old photo with McClellan and Lincoln in a tent).

This feedback is especially good stuff, helping me make B&F more useful to more folks...Thanks Again

Re: Bugles & Flags XIV
Iam having the same issue. Neither XIII nor XIV is working. No matter if I try 7Zip or WIN RAR. I also get the archive error.
Re: Bugles & Flags XIV
thanks for the info, but have 2 questions still:
- should this now work with Win8, or do I still need to use the BFMPT instead?
- and should I be able to use this, what's the difference between "justrun and Ajustrun"?
thanks...

Re: Bugles & Flags XIV
Sorry for the late response, I'm hoping you resolved this issue. I've heard of no other unzipping issues, however, the server has been reported as having some download issues lately.Iam having the same issue. Neither XIII nor XIV is working. I think the MP version I added separately is working OK for Win8 MP play since I haven't heard otherwise. A command with an A prefix makes the command a brigade and up command. Justrun just moves the regiment, Ajustrun moves the brigade, or division, etc., depending on the officer selected.thanks for the info, but have 2 questions still:

Re: Bugles & Flags XIV
Have you tried a new download? Sometimes they get corrupted in the download process, especially with slow connection speeds. The file is 7zipped, so that method should be preferable for unzipping.
