In GCM games, we encourage players NOT to use couriers.

I use couriers. I'll send messages in game to other players and continued to do so after the last patch. When I heard about the courier problem I stopped doing this.
Con20 was in the lobby one afternoon a number of days ago and wanted to test some MP couriers. We played a GCM game with him only using couriers. Con20 took one of my brigades and everyone played couriers throughout. The game was fought to completion with plenty of couriers sent. No problems. It was actually a pretty good fight. The players not used to couriers had a tough time of it. I hope that they understand that with more practice couriers are a neat way to play.

Thanks, NY Cavalry.
GCM seems to be very solid and suffer from hardly any freezes or crashes despite huge battles, many different players, lots of new players etc etc.
Knowing that in GCM, as a rule, couriers are not used, this is quite a contrast with the people trying to play MP using couriers, where freezes have happened so frequently as to stop some people playing with couriers.
In your GCM game with Con20or, did you play with custom settings and Couriers set to 'Brigade' and above? This is how I'm trying to play in MP.

There's a flag in sowgb/work/sowgb.ini
[Debug]
MPLog=1
Does this mean I should add the lines
[Debug]
MPLog=1
to my sowgb.ini file?
If so, does it matter where?
TIA

One other thing i would add is that i was using Hamachi V. Lan to host, if thats means somthing.
Monty, others, is the host using Hamachi during your games?
No. Never.

I am sorry for not being more specific in my earlier post.
The game was 3 vs 3. Only couriers used were between players. There were no couriers between player and regiments. Game ran the full hour with no slow downs or glitches.

Thanks NY.
Just to note, the reason there isn't much talk about this is because couriers do work in MP as we have confirmed in our testing, and with other players playing with them flawlessly. The issues mentioned in this thread are isolated and we'll figure out what's going on.

Thanks NY - I think that couriers between players are OK, it is using Custom settings and couriers for Brigade and above where I have experienced problems and where Monty's group are also having troubles.
Thanks LP. As shown in NY's posts, there are various meanings of "using couriers". I know your testing went well, but are there many games being successfully played, for an hour or more, with Custom settings and couriers being used at Brigade and above??

If you do get errors or crashes during gameplay, make sure you check your logs (sowgb.log) for any obvious errors in there, usually in all caps.

I don’t know if this helps or not.
We played a 60 minute eight player game last night with Couriers by Brigade and had no problems.
The OOB was one of Garnier’s original balanced OOB for eight players. (not GCM & not Stock game)
The one problem we did have where the constant stream of Courier messages from subordinates informing you that they were moving to such & such location as ordered. Even though we had unchecked the Courier Message option.
Can somebody else check if this is working correctly?
Thanks.
