They were quiet for some time - but then they posted a vid with loads of screenshots. Looks fantastic. i don't care if it's pirates - if they keep that advanced sail control aspect I'll play the hell out of it.

Looks like it could be a great sim! I'm one of those people that likes pirate history but any Naval sim from the age of sail would be awesome pirates or not! I haven't read much on it yet. Are they giving you an option to be Royal Navy to hunt pirates also? How about a privateer?

I'm not sure - but I would be surprised if they didn't. In most Pirate games (Age of Pirates) you can be a privateer and work for a government.

Bit of a quick update - the HOOCOTS dev team ran into trouble with the CryEngine - so they decided to switch to Unity. Changing engine half way through development sounds like a disaster but from what they are reporting they were able to catch up very quickly and Unity is allowing them to solve all the problems that CryEngine was giving them!
Only problem is, they need Unity Pro licences, which aren't free. And although they are still planning on releasing the game for free, they need to fundraise to help them get through development.

It would have been hard to make me want that game more but this really has caught my interest. 3D games had never really appealed to me until now.
